just starting

just wanted to start the mesage board by saying- does anybody know if this movie is going to be in any way like the book Pride and prejudice, just somewhat funnier?

reply

yes, well...
from the names of characters listed on imdb, OBVIOUSLY this is based on Pride and Prejudice.
But 'somewhat funnier'? come on. Think about what you're saying.
Try 'bound to be less funny because it is written by someone of less genius than Austen, though we can give them a few points for having good taste'.........
I know no more about this alleged film than you, though I am now off to try to find something out.
cheers L

reply

haha - I couldn't agree with you more Laura. Judging from the name changes to the characters, I'm guessing it'll be one of those classics in a contemporary setting. Please post any info you find on it.

Aw man, I shot Marvin in the face.

reply

as one who worked and continues to work on this project i can say it's supposed to be a romantic comedy in a contemporary setting. i've never read the book so i don't know how faithful it is.

reply

How can people make a movie about something they've never even read?

Aw man, I shot Marvin in the face.

reply

you can be a non major crew member and not read it. the high up people did read it.

so what role did you have on the film, mnoxious? I'm really curious to find out more about this film. I love Pride And Prejudice, and have heard this is a Mormon(?) take on it? Do you care to comment? Do you know enough about it to comment? Why a Mormon version? Won't that be limited in its audience appeal? Is the film coming here to China? Or is it "a Utah Comedy", which will stay in Utah, USA??? Please let us know. I get the feeling we're getting overly excited about something only residents of Utah, USA will ever see the light of....

There's been a trend over the last couple of years of making films directed at an LDS audience. Movies like God's Army, The Singles' Ward, the RM, and The Other Side of Heaven are all part of this genre. If you've never heard of any of those movies, it's probably because you odn't live in Utah or an LDS-saturated community. This film, from what I know about it (I'm not involved-besides being an extra-but I know a few people on the crew) fits into that category. So if you find yourself in Utah (or areas with a sizeable LDS population, like Mesa AZ or Laie HI), you'll probably be able to see this film. Otherwise, you can wait until the DVD comes out.

But, based on my experience (I'm LDS and live in Utah), these movies are generally not very good. Most have some good parts, but on the whole are not worth it unless you're really into the LDS culture (as opposed to the actual religion itself- I'm devout but I find many aspects of the culture annoying). I'll see this movie because I want to see myself, but I'm not expecting much out of it. It would be nice if it turns out well, though. We can hope.

reply

Hmm. What kind of extra were you? Can you give us any dish on the actors or the story? I've read the book a dozen times and I'm of course in loooooove with Colin Firth. I liked 'Clueless,' is this adaptation kind of like that or? Do you know when the movie is supposed to come out?

reply

hi all!!1 well my brother is the producer and one of the writers.... to answer a few of the questions:

he and the writers loved the book... and are staying very true to it..as far s the script goes, lovers of the book will love it.. how the acting and editing turn it out,... well I have faith in my bro!

yes, it will have a mormon background, but not overwhelmingly so, my brother was very concerned about this matter and has assured me that this the mormon back drop is to give context.. and not an main theme. what better modern adaptation than a religion that encourages marriage early and emphasisez somewhat archaic methods for dating and courting???? He assured me that this movie would be enjoyed by non-mormons and mormons alike.

as for release, he thinks it will only get release in utah and california to start, the rest depends on how well it is recieved. He is also entering it in a variety of film festivels so you may also see it there.

Later,
El.
