pretty good

Just watched the movie and liked it, nothing amazing but a lot better than I was expecting for a movie I had never heard of. Also Dominique Swain reminded me a lot of Kirsten Dunst, I don't think I have ever seen her in a movie before but she was pretty good.

Indeed, very good movie coming from one I've never heard about. Highly recomended. I loved Dennis Hopper and the whole theme of religion through out the movie, tied in VERY well.

caught this on cable one night. reminds you that there are places where the outside world intrudes for only a short time (like an incoming tide); then recedes to leave the small town locals to their best devices...
in the case of "out of season," those devices include murder, theft, infidelity, deceit and insanity. nice little bundle for noir fans here. although the style is reminiscent of many other films in the genre, i think the unique (quirky) talents of gina gershon, dennis hopper, jim carter and dominique swain make this a film worth seeing; and a small world worth visiting...if you've got the stomach for it.
not sure why all the religious symbolism (which isn't usually a feature of films in the genre), but it's not too heavy (the next-to-last scene notwithstanding). and, as i mentioned, it adds a little uniqueness to the proceedings.

Hi Gregory
thanks for your thoughts on Out of Season. Glad you enjoyed my pic. Thanks for taking the trouble to leave a message.
I guess the religious symbolism runs through it as the characterisation mirrors in some small way the classic christianity set up of Father, Son, Devil (Simeon) etc.
