Who else cried when.... (SPOILER)

.... Damian's mum said to him, "Don't you know what my miracle was? It was you." I don't know of any mother who doesn't feel that way too about her own children. It was just so lovingly and simply stated. :`-)

I guessed that was the obvious answer, yet the boy made me cry ! Brilliant Movie

The eventual appearance of the mother was telegraphed from nearly the start of the film when the saints started turning up, so I was expecting it at some point. What was impressive was that she was perfectly ordinary in appearance (albeit possessed of impressive wisdom and compassion), not idealised as one might have expected given that much else of the film was "seen" through Damien's eyes.
I think I was already brimming over well before this point (the little bit with a haloed Joseph pinch-hitting for Damien in the play was wonderful and poignant), but this scene was the emotional pay-off.
Much of what she said was absolutely what I expected her to say, but it was still a very rewarding scene. If only we could all experience such a reunion with a lost loved one. . .

That scene made weep, that and th end of the film :)

I tear up every time I watch it and I've seen it at least 5-6 times.

are you kidding???? I cry like a big 'ol girl EVERYTIME I watch this movie. The scene with his Mom....when she says, "aren't you gonna' say good bye" just kills me each time. I love this movie. And that is the most hertbreaking scene, to me, ever in a movie! I also cry at the very end when they are in Africa and the water starts to flow!!! Uh-oh, welling up just thinkin about it

reply

I haven't finished watching the film yet, but I sniffled a bit when I read this bit aloud to my students (a couple of the girls teared up as well)

reply

Yes, I cried (and am filling up now as I think back to that scene).

I didn't cry, but it was a very touching scene.
