I remember seeing that scene in the theater and thinking, 'Wow. You'd never see an Indian bank teller in an American-made film.'

Indian? the character wasn't Indian :). Plus its not an "American-made" film.

Frieda Pinto was probably in high school in India when this film was shot.

British films/TV shows (usually) show MORE diversity, such as the Muslim bank teller(she has on the black hijab). You can't tell if she's Indian from that, BUT she DOES look South Asian. South Asians have been in UK since the '40s.

I don't think that was an Indian woman. With that head covering I'd say she was a Muslim. And it definitely was not latifa from slumdog millionaire.
