Hanging Sheep

In Greek tragedy, sometimes there are strange signs in the land to signify that something is wrong. My thought is that the villagers hanging the sheep was like that, because technically speaking, Eleni was Spyros' wife. When Alexis, Eleni, and the children tried to move into the house, the villagers further showed their disapproval by throwing stones.

I thought the villagers did it to prevent Alexis and Eleni from benefitting from Spyros's wealth on his death. They clearly disapproved of the couple.
