Oh man

This film is seriously bad. It's one of the biggest wastes of time I've ever gone through. Everything is dead in it and there's not a single character you'd ever give a damn for. I could count one or two moments (not sequences) I liked in the film, but I would've had much more good moments if I had just gone strolling around in Barcelona instead of coming into the movie theatre to watch this.

Nobody said that Angelopoulos' projects are easy to watch. There is so much symbolism in his movies, and he delivers it within frames that most other directors either couldn't be capable of delivering, or just plainly wouldn't (because of the mainstream obligations to their producers...) This is not Hollywood or mainstream in any shape or form, just a great example of European arthouse cinema that is most definately not to everyone's liking. I suspect that you went to watch this without knowing anything about Theo and his work...

I suspect that you do not know anything about me and should not imply anything. A view at my personal top films will be enough to prove you wrong.

Take it easy, Daniel, you'll have your "Torrente 3" dosis very soon...

This wasn't funny.

"The Thin Red Line," "Exotica," and "Mulholland Dr" -- excellent choices.

I think this film’s tediousness in a way reflects its creator’s own dullness. I saw an interview with Angelopoulos and noticed that he came across quite a boring person, without the smallest grain of charisma or sense of humour.

me too.........sorry its kind of a snoozer. people on some of the other threads here are getting kinda worked up over art vs entertainment it seems. My vote is usually for the artist that can entertain too. example being great musicians who have an audience awareness, and that when they appear live have a respect and love of entertining the audience and all that that entails; and that when they record they observee the highest level of artistic presentation that, again entertains too. its ok to create "art" that only a few can appreciate. but don't expect me to praise it.

I thought it was awful too. Aesthetics and music can't compensate for the surplus of scenes and deficit of point. Not everything shot outside Hollywood is quality (and not everything shot within is trash).

I think the people watching this as their first Angelopoulos are making a big mistake. This is REALLY not the place to start with him, perhaps his debut or The Suspended Step of the Stork, but not this, it may be one of his better known but it is one of the most challenging Angelopoulos films too. If you didn't like this I recommend watching the two I mentioned and perhaps The Beekeeper too. I consider this film a five star achievement.
