The Next Led Zeppelin

Hey this is a post for which band you think is the next Led Zeppelin mainly about their music sound or life style their music might be different for example nirvana could have been the next b/c their music is legendary so which band do you think is the next Led or will be legendary and put a reason why
here are some of mine

Nirvana, died at young age meaning no more music and they are legendary and always look up to

The Darkness, Their sound and and apperance they are Queen and Led Zeppelin mixed and i believe in the future they will be legendary

lets keep the train rolling

reply

Sorry, 'next Led Zeppelin'?

Dude, there will be no more Zeppelins. Their music is still ahead of our time, despite the fact they did it 35 years ago, just listen to No Quarter! Ditto Pink Floyd and Hendrix. I see where you're coming from, but some bands will never be equalled.

Smells like Teen Spirit does not make a band legendary, only blowing your head off at your peak it seems. And the Darkness? Seriously?

reply

ahha That darkness comment made me laugh, their frontman sings like such a b itch, I remmeber guns n roses could have been the next led zeppelin(as people were saying), but everyone knows how they turned out.

I like my coffee the same way I like my women...........strong......black......and proud.

Beleive it or not, Guns N' Roses were on their way there, but Axl f ucked it up big time

your moms a bitch

reply

Obviously Simple Plan, i mean common...

haha FU*K THAT!

Rock n roll is over, zeppelin was it and we should be glad we had em'.

reply

Although there can never be another Led Zeppelin I think Queens of the Stone Age are pretty damn faithful to the dark side of hard rock.

The two guitar players are phenomenal and are not afraid to change solos, add solos in fact change the song completely if their artistic mood is such. Just like Pagey.

The drummer looks like the incredible hulk and manages to hit very very hard indeed just like Bonham.

They play long, and I mean long concerts. When I saw them in london a few years ago they played for over two and a half hours, with only three albums of material to choose from at the time, that was very good form in my book.

They have very metaphorical, cryptic lyrics and lots of occult symbolism going on in the album art, concert posters, music vids.

The genius behind it all Josh Homme is big into the production side of things with his own band and others and really understands studio dynamics and recording techniques. There are very obvious backwards subliminal messages on a quiet bit of their song 'God is in the Radio'. Very spooky when listened to in headphones late at night.

They like their drugs, tell people of this fact but at the same time don't go around hating on people who choose not to get stoned.

They also know how to work a crowd in huge arenas like Zep and use alternate tunings for a change unlike a lot of bands that only use one or two.

Ways they are different to zep: not much hair, not as tight trousers, not all english and coy in interviews, no private jet.

Check 'em out!

I know there will never be another Led Zeppelin but my question was more to the lines of what bands today will leave a big impact and have their music listend to and liked by a majority of people

The amount of talent that could be found in Led Zeppelin will never again be found in any band. Even if a band today had a ton of talent, it certainly would not be utilized to its fullest like Led Zeppelin. I agree that U2 is about the only band these days that is standing the test of time (excluding the Stones, but they haven't put out any quality new stuff in who knows how long), but thirty years after they are gone and are no longer touring, will people celebrate U2 like Led Zeppelin is celebrated these days? NO! Music today just doesn't mean as much it meant when Led Zeppelin ruled the world.

reply

Don't laugh but I believe that it could possibly be Tool. Opinions?

reply

Well, you have to look at the corporate culture of music today -- the music companies own it all. Zeppelin arose in a time when the atmosphere was right. They made their own rules. They made their own music. They did it all on their terms.

Would any music exec today allow, say, Tool to make an album that has both "Immigrant Song" and "Tangerine" on it? No way, because it doesn't fit the mold.

There will never be another Zeppelin -- because the music INDUSTRY won't allow it.

reply

Does anyone here think the Red Hot Chilli Peppers will one day be as legendary as bands like Zeppelin and Floyd??? After watching the dvd Live At Slane Castle I can say that this band is among the best of the best and has been for the last decade. For whatever reason though I don't here this bands name as much when talking about the greats of today?

reply

That's because everyone's duped by rap and pop.

your moms a bitch

reply

"Don't laugh but I believe that it could possibly be Tool."

Completely agree.

The void is a mirror.

reply

Of course there will never be another Zep. But let's not forget about Rush, who began their journey 35 years ago and with their new release, they have proven that they are still a force.

reply

No one will ever match Zeppelin, Theirs just no really legendary bands around these days, doesnt mean their arent good bands around at the momment.
But Zeppelin were just so powerful and the way they performed, they truly were Rock Gods

reply

Sorry, dude.. I know you (probably) don't play the drums and don't know that Bonham changed the whole way of playing.. up to that, Rock drummers were almost the same as Jazz drummers... And no one can compare to Bonzo...

NONE, Never, won't happen... Led Zeppelin was a truly ground breaking band. They set the foundation and made music way ahead of its time...well...the way music is going now, id say it was just right for its own time. Zeppelin just had it all, I don't know what it is about them, but they were the perfect band.

Musically, the times have changed. There will be no more zeppelin just as there will be no more Mozart or Beethoven... Even if a group of the same talent came along, pop. culture won't have it. We are now in the times of punk rock, emo wrist-cutting terds, and rap. Part of Zep's amazingness was their popularity. If they existed today, they would not have been nearly as big.

reply

Um Tool is a little to "different" for the masses, but I have to say they created a complete new sound in hard rock, and lots of credit to them for that, but will they be a Zeppelin, not in my opinon. Now, you said your real question was what bands will be looked up to as much as Led Zeppelin in the future. I think you have to give alot of bands will for the things they did and what time they did it in, because for everytime period there's different things to look for. Here's a list of bands I think deserve alot of credit and why.

Coldplay-bringing high quailty music into the bed rooms of average people, pop people, completely misunderstood band, they're underrated musicans, and overrated pop figures. very melodic.

Icubus-Good new band, shown alot of growth from there earlier more immature albums to there great very deep and very intersting new albums, plus they get credit for mixing a dj with rock.

Mars Volta- Much doesn't need to be said, just watch them live and you'll be blown away, very experimental (hints of Floyd) HOWEVER, this band doesn't have a big fan base so I can't really say there going to be legends, but if you ask me they should be.

as much as I love Nin's there just average.

AND THIS IS THE ONE BAND I THINK CAN ACTUALLY BE A NEXT LED ZEPPELIN

Radiohead-If you don't know why there great buy any of there albums even the newer electric ones, there just the best band to come out in recent history

and thats my 2 cents

reply

There will be no "Next Led Zeppelin" they'll be other good bands, but no one will match the caliber of Zeppelin's music.

reply

to those who never will there be a band to reach the caliber of led zeppelin hey Never is a very very long time to say that zep was the best ther was best there is and best there ever will be is a bit of a strech although they were musical perfection.

Now if I had to pick one band thats out now that could match zeppelin's success and legend status it would be the arcade fire although they have only released one album it is very different then anything else out there and really well put together but who knows they could flop on there next album.

well, thats just my two cents on the topic

reply

I, a young knight from a small New England town, have taken in a mission from a guitar store dude I've known for a couple of years to revive rock and roll. Yes, it will be a harrowing journey, filled with corporate corporateness and a hell of a lot of sacrifice (and putting together a band), but it was the guy's birthday and he was all bummed out. Thought I'd but that here, it only seems appropriate, since the only way to truly revive such a type of music to it's old status would be to become a member of a band at least close to Led Zeppelin. And believe me, when I gain the access, I'll kick every member of Fallout Boy in the nads!

reply

Wolfmother...not there but close enough, get their songs

reply

wolfmother suck, they'll never get the universal appeal that zeppelin has. led zeppelin will never be matched because of their influence on music today. almost any rock band that exists today stems from them, and will therefore never be as good. for another band to be as good as zeppelin, they'll have to start a new musical era, and i just don't think that will happen.

"i am he as you are he as you are me and we are altogether."

reply

there will probably never be a "next led zeppelin"
Although Guns n' Roses were on theyre way there, but superego's tore them apart
We find your American beer like making love in a canoe. It's *beep* close to water!

reply

Wolfmother don't suck, *beep* you. They are a band that has obviously been influenced by Led Zep and proudly display that. Plus they write *beep* awesome tunes.

It'll be dark soon, and they mostly come at night... mostly.

reply

[deleted]

I reckon the Volta are the next Pink Floyd... with added Latin flavour!

GOB: I'm an ideas man Michael; I think I proved that with *beep* Mountain

reply

I think Wolfmother comes close in that they at least sound a little like Sep.

However, Led Zeppelin were the perfect band making perfect music at the perfect time. You cant manufature that kind of perfection, people have tried. Guns N Roses didnt try to manufacture perfection, they were simply a product of their times. Unfortunately, as has already been stated, egos destroyed what GNR couldve been. Axle Rose believed in his own hype.

One album can be credited, or villified, for causing the over commercialisation that has allowed the likes of Britany Spears and Jessica Simpson to become superstars...That album is Thriller. It caused the execs of almost every record company to take greater control and attempt to emulate Thriller, which is what every record company has been trying to do since 1983/84.

One day, though, a new band will come out of the blue. They will be on an independant label, possibly creating their own, and they will take the world by storm. It probably wont happen in my life time, and if it does Ill be an old man by then...But I still hold out hope.

I definetely agree hecklejecklelove. There will be a rescue from the current crap music, just as Nirvana was the deliverance from lousy hair bands, and just as Zep was the deliverance from garbage like Captain and Tenille.

On a second note, Wolfmother are very close in sound, but as stated before, they just will not have the culutural impact that their predecessors had.

If the rain comes, they run and hide their heads.

reply

I think Radiohead will stand out very well for many more years after they stop making music

They may not be similar to LZ in style and image (although they have that mystic aura too), but they've had a huge impact on today's modern rock, just as LZ had in their time.

reply

It amazes me how a band can be defunct for almost 30 years and still have heaping mounds of "greatest of all time" continuously thrown on them. I should mention they are my absolute favorite.

There won't be another thing like them.

reply

No one can put out the rare quality LZ did and do it album after album. Not going to happen.

reply

Everybody, you should listen to "The Answer" and "Silvertide". They are the closest to Zeppelins than anyone is today.

Here is my view on the bands that have been posted here:

Coldplay -
No balls and boring.

U2 -
No balls and even more boring. Bono has the most annoying voice i've ever heard, he can't 'rock'. The Edge (what a *beep* stupid name by the way) never plays a solo because he is too sh*t. Plus they are annoying pinko wussies that bitch all the time about everything. When there is nothing to bitch about, they go look for it and when they found it, they suddenly care about civil wars in jungle countries no one has ever heard of.

Icubus -
Origionality is always nice..., but the next Zeppelin???? HELL NO.

Mars Volta -
Too psychidelic to get big, too hard to get into. I can't deny these guys are good musicians though.

Tool -
Weren't they that band that made an anime clip about corporate greed or am i totally wrong here?

Radiohead -
Please, get the *beep* outta here and don't let the door hit you on the way out. I have yet to hear a Radiohead song that i actually like.

I know when i hear good stuff that has potential to last like Zep, and i'm willing to put money on it that people won't be talking about these bands in 30 years anymore. There won't be a next Zep. There may come someting that will equal it's greatness, who knows. Guns 'n Roses was the only thing that truly came close to it so far. When people mention bands like Radiohead or Coldplay i don't know if i gotta laugh or cry at such a redicilous statement.

And no, i'm not only negative:

Wolfmother -
They are a good band that write fun songs. The singer has a great voice, that kinda reminds us of Robert Plant. Their songs are a tad on the simple side though and pretty much all of em are written in E minor. It gets boring after a while listening to the same chords. I do believe though, that there is a lot of potential in them. Lets hear the 2nd album guys!

Red Hot Chilli Peppers -
They are origional and make good songs. This is the only popular band at the moment that has potential to have a place in rock history. It's the only band at the moment 'that no one really hates' among the general crowd. They won't be as big as Zep, but they will most likely have a place in rock history. Although they are more funk then rock. Oh well.

The Darkness -
They broke up which is sad. They released two really fun albums that where good. I doubt though they will be rememberred over a long time though. The reason they lived a short hype was probably that there wasn't any good hard rock around (and there still isn't) at the time they released their albums. They filled the HUGE gap nicely for a while. I saw them live and their style totally resembled the stuff they did in the seventies. They where a good band.

Bottom line:
At this moment, there are NO bands that have any chance to come even close to Zeppelin's greatness.

reply

THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER LED ZEPPELIN .

reply

You don't get to be the "next" version of a band by simply copying them. Wolfmother are one of the most unoriginal bands going round.

reply

I think my band has a chance at redirecting the course of modern music. I am not going to say we are the next Led Zeppelin, but hopefully we can have a similar cultural impact on rock music. Listen to us here at our myspace: www.myspace.com/hailstonerocks

The three songs on there were written by us and we recorded them on our own record label, much like hjl said in his post... Let me/us know what you think!

reply

I foolishly though Audioslave had a chance after the first album but......
effing Cornell, so flakey.

THE MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN WILL NEVER BE MATCHED

The world will end long before, in which case Zepheads will win, i guess.

reply

I think the Red Hot Chili Peppers have a chance at being remembered close to what Zeppelin is remembered as today, but no band will ever match Led Zeppelin.

reply

i would say wolfmother as well, they aren't nearly as good as zep, but they have their own sound and it really does have hints of zep in there

reply

These guys have a serious Zeppelin influence. Do yourself a favor and check them out!

Most bands labled the next anything usually go down hill fast because too much is expected of them. Or they just plain out suck. I remember in the mid eighties when a band called Kingdome Come was supposed to have been the next Zeppelin (and they were one of the first called that.) They were gone after one hit song.

reply

YES! There WILL be a next Led Zeppelin! It is:

Ready for it?

Not yet...

And the answer is...LED ZEPPELIN

The IMDb boards deserve a better class of poster, and I'm gonna give it to 'em...

reply

That would be a great thing if a new album actually got made. I could only have accepted that with Jason Bonham and it's not even that I consider him a great drummer (don't get me wrong I think he's good), but it's Bonzo's blood and that's the way it should be done if it going to happen.

reply

The only two bands i can think of that are gaining the popularity and are absolutly great musicians.

1. the mars volta.
best band of this current generation. so zeppelin eske.

2. Coheed and Cambria.
if you have ever heard the song the final cut. wow really amazing. \

Im a big bright shining star...(whips it out)... yeah..
