I hate this!!

Led Zeppelin likes to pretend that they are the greatest rock band, but you know what? theyre not. What have they really done, and what are they doing today? Some one tell me that! I bought this DVD in hopes that I would appreciate this band that everyone seems to love, but I feel as though it was a silly waste of money. Give me your opinions!

A topic as subjective as this will breed perpetual debates, therefore its futile to argue about such things. However, you ask what have they really done? Well first and foremost they have become (after the Beatles) the biggest selling rock band on earth in the history of music, not a bad achievement. They were the biggest band in the world for 10 years selling out across the globe, most notably in America where so many British acts fail to thrive. Another point to remember is that all this was achieved before the advent of MTV, the internet etc and the fact that they didn't release singles meant they were seldom on the radio let alone TV, this in itself is an astonishing feat when you consider how much today's artist rely on these media conduits. What are they doing today? Still selling millions of records on every inch of the planet aswell as the DVD. Maybe you should have bought a few of thier albums before shelling out the money on the DVDs.

you put together a good apology in response to the OP's post. I myself am not a Led Zeppelin fan. There are about five songs of theirs I like (namely Over the Hills & Far Away). Presently, I am listening to their songs and reading literature on the band to gain some understanding of them. After 15 tracks, I do know this: Led Zeppelin was the best band in the history of Popular Music. While the Beatles went from Mop Tops to serious composers, the members of Led Zeppelin were already very good by the time of the band's first practice as a unit. The only thing that remained was for them to actually do it (fulfill their destiny). The OP might do well to listen to Led Zeppelin's music before watching their documentaries (something I will do this weekend) as you suggested.

What have they really done

They made some darn good music.

Buy albums and DVD's of bands that you like, not what everybody else likes.

Okay, first of all, Zeppelin doesn't pretend they're the greatest rock band. Your mistaking them with their fans which, personally, I don't agree with. Anybody who can choose one greatest band is NOT a fan of music. Zeppelin is just a really *beep* awesome band.

Second of all, what they have done? C'mon. They've inspired almost every single rock band to come after them (if not all). They contributed to the birth of heavy metal, but they remained a blues band. Even now some kid can put on a record (or a CD, whatever) and it will sound new.

If you can name the greatest band, you're not a fan of music?

I can call Zeppelin the greatest band out of sheer quality of music. It outlasts all others. They're the greatest band in my world. Your world is different.

you're obviously an idiot, zeppelin was the greatest rock band ever and if you don't realise that, you're not a rock fan at all.

What the hell? Isn't that a matter of opinion? Personally I don't think they are THE best, but they are still very good.

pete0616 it is sad to see that you cannot appreciate the absolute masterpiece that is Led Zeppelin. They are one of the most influential bands to date and their music will live on fro years to come. You ask what are they doing today? well they are getting old in their years and incase you didn't know John Bonham died in 1980. Please watch this DVD again and watch it open mindedly and see how amazing the bands songwriting is.

Personally I had to play their music myself to actually appreciate their music. It really gets to you how innovative this band really was. Not to mention that they inspired a new type of rock which expanded on the foundations already laid by The Who and other notable pre-heavy metal bands. They, as it has already been said, were able to succeed even though they didn't use many media outlets. You need to look into their successes, their song writing capability, their technical skill, and most importantly, their SOUL/ENTHUSIASM.

That's that. I didn't like them before but now they are one of my favourites.
