How was this similar to 'Scream'

I guess it's because The Hazing also tries to put a spin on some of the genre's cliches. In this case, it's through the stereotypical characters, most of whom turn out not to be how they initially appear (the nerdy guy turns out to be the hero, the ditzy blonde is actually smart and resourceful, and the bitchy chick only appears so sour all the time because she can't stand anybody except for the nerdy guy).
shareI would say it owes more to Night Of the Demons more so than any other horror film. It also references Evil Dead a bunch.

It's called marketing, it would be a great move if they compared it to Sorority Babes at the Slimeball Bowl-A-Rama.

shareThe scenario for this movie is basically a combination of Hell Night and The Evil Dead. Hell Night was about fraternity and sorority pledges who had to spend a night in a spooky house while the frat brothers played scary tricks on them. But that movie was pretty much a slasher rather than a movie about possession... and that's where The Evil Dead comes in.
