Everything about this movie is wrong....

They should not have wasted their time. It really sux. The script is cheesy. The actors are awful. I liked how Sykes said in the commentary that he needed strong actors, yeah like anyone of those people were strong actors. I feel sorry for the dude who had to bang the nasty, fat, ugly ho. At least they could have gotten hot strippers to do those roles. And whats up with that stripper in the end ewww. The only highligt of this film was seeing "Chrissy" without her make up. Cute!!

I thought it was well done for as much as it cost. I saw this at the Bare Bones Script2Screen festival, and thought it was really good. If you're just interested in seeing naked people, go get a porn or something. I think Brad did a great job, and the cast and crew did a good job as well.

If you like independent films, you should see this one. Otherwise, watch Spielberg or some other filmaker who can't make a movie worth a crap.

I agree with Vanistor, though he could have been a little more mature with the way he worded his opinion about it.

The acting *is* bad. The editing is worse. The sound is bad. The camera work is shabby. The lighting is awkward.

This movie gave me a headache.

I'm not trying to compare it to Hollywood films or anything, I'm only saying that all the things mentioned above could have been improved significantly without increasing the budget.

The editing is was bothered me the most. It didn't flow at all. For instance, in the opening scene, the music just disappears as soon as the conversation starts. Someone doesn't know how to blend things that were shot on different days, from the looks of it. At the very least, they could have faded the music out, or shot the dialogue with no music and put the music in during post.

But hey, if the people making it had fun, I guess in a case like this, that's what matters the most. I don't think movies this bad should be released, but I do think that if someone sat down with these filmmakers and had a long chat with them about what they need to learn how to do, they'd gain a lot from it. It's not about striving to be like Spielberg, it's about capturing an audience, holding their attention, and taking them somewhere. This movie didn't do that.

...Having just looked at the director/writer's filmography, I'm confused. This movie looked to me like it was everyone's first try at making a movie, since there are so many simple problems in it that have nothing to do with the lack of a budget. Can someone explain this to me? Independant films are great, but independant doesn't need to mean sloppy. I'm not trying to be rude, I seriously just don't understand. These are simple problems that can easily be solved. Do they want their movies to look like they were shot on a home video camera and edited on a home computer?

reply

It was shot on a prosumer digital camera (just a step up from a home video camera) and edited on a home computer.

Most indies now are done that way. I shoot on a digital 8 and edit with premiere. I still think it was a good effort, and I enjoyed it at the festival. It didn't win best of, a better movie won that, called Branded, directed by Darla Enlow of Next Monkey Productions. That was a really good film.

Is there anywhere where we can view your films?

Look at that...he replies. If you're talking about mine, then no. There is a DVD available of a stupid short I did. It's called "Dongerize" and you can get it at www.amazon.com

I've done many, many others, but none are available to the general public yet.

Vanistor is right. I think the image of Goth that Sykes was going for was the dark, mysterious, intelligent, and quick-witted girl, but she just reminded me of what I would find if I went into a Cruxshadows chat room on Yahoo. She was unintentionally hilarious as opposed to scary; and Phoebe Dollar has played scary roles before (Hell’s Highway) and done a much better job, so I don’t know what the problem was. Other characters, like the security guard in the “massage salon,” were just ridiculous. Some scenes didn’t make sense at all, like the hotel room scene (what was the dispute over? What kind of business is Goth involved in? If it’s something big, how does she have time to go to concerts and drive kids around the city all night and scare the crap out of them with death threats?), or the scene in the “massage salon” where Boone was told to have sex with one of the girls, and he picked the heaviest and nastiest one (call me superficial, but if he has a thing for overweight women, why is he with Chrissy, and allegedly lusting after Goth?) The script was written as though the writer had a book of clichés in his hand the entire time, and crammed as much of them into the dialogue as he could (“I got sloppy seconds baby!”, “Take another hit!” * “Don’t mind if I do.”) The only reason why Chrissy and Boone allow this to go on at the beginning is to prove that they’re not poseurs, which is too unbelievable for a couple supposed to be in their mid twenties. And finally, we don’t know who’s driving the van! This movie is very funny, but for all the wrong reasons. The only thing that keeps this movie from being a total waste is the music of Novocain Halo.

Watch this movie if you plan to invite your friends over, drink some beer, and have a good laugh; otherwise, don’t bother.

Ok folks. Movies like this are made for well under $10,000, usually in around six to eight days. The crew consists of a director, a producer, director of photography, a production assistant and, if they're lucky, one grip. And a make-up person when effects are needed. All these people are paid peanuts. Usually the actors are not paid, although Pheobe Dollar may have been paid, so that's why the acting is uneven. You have to cover tape stock, food, location rentals, gear rental, special effects and everything else. It's tough, but not impossible. Just getting the script shot is barely doable.

I haven't seen this movie, but have worked on movies on the same level. They are brutal. To be honest, most of them suck mainly because scripts that aren't well written or overly ambitious or both. Sometimes the movies suck because people don't have the talent. Sometimes they suck because of lack of time or money. I think everybody could do a better job most of the time, but sometimes it's just impossible.

I've worked on labor of love movies made on small budgets, but this isn't one of those. It's a job for hire. Labor of love films are great, but you can only pour so much of your life for pennies a day into a project and then you have to take jobs like this that will pay the bills.

That's life in the movie biz.

How busy is she? The offers must have been rolling in after she made "Goth" (yes, I did check her filmography before you get pedantic on my ass...)
