The Godzilla Movie Rankings From Best to Worst.

hiya, first time poster here, might as well make it a big splash. here's my own list of best to worst, completewith comments and everything. enjoy!

notes: i have yet to see last winter's godzilla x mechagodzilla, and i havent included tristar's godzilla(gino).

1. GODZILLA, MOTHRA, KING GHIDORA(gmk)
As soon as I saw this movie last month, I knew I had a new favorite, and after watching this twice in the last 48 hrs it only confirmed it. This is like the Ultimate G movie and about as perfect as these movies can get nowadays. The look, movement, and feel to the kaiju on display here was above top notch. The action is insanely good, Baragon vs. Godzilla could be one of the greatest little battles ever. It's a great movie to boot with pretty good acting and a solid story. Forget everything you knew about Godzilla, and just admire this movie.

2. GODZILLA VS. MEGALON
Campy as all hell? Yes. Fun as all hell? Oh hell yes! I've heard people say this is one of the worst of the bunch, but how can anything this entertaining be?! I love the tag team of Megalon and Gigan and i totally love Jet Jaguar and the totally good guy Godzilla! This is just great fun 70's monster action, and I cannot deny how much I love this movie.

3. GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER
Another great good guy G movie. When I was young I would constantly be singing the Save the Earth song! Hedorah was one of the strongest of the villians also, which always freaked me out. It's one of the movies where I was scared G would lose. Love it!

4. GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA
Call me a sucker for Mechagodzilla, but yeah thats what I am. This first one was freaking awesome. Witht he battle of Angilas vs. Fake G to King Seesar/G vs. MechaG it's just some really great monster action. And damn MechaG is just so freaking cool!

5. TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA
Call me a sucker for Mechagodzilla, but yeah thats what I am, part 2. This one G just kicks some major booty taking on both MechaG and the big sissy monster Titanasauras, which I thought was a great Kaiju design.

6. GODZILLA VS. MECHAGODZILLA 2
Call me a sucker for Mechagodzilla, but yeah thats what I am, part 3. I was so looking forward to this movie because of not only the return of MechaG, but the return of G's pal Rodan! I liked to think of Rodan as G's girlfriend when I was a kid, they were always arguing! And wow did this movie have that same feel to it! Some great battles and probably one of the strongest overall of the Hesei series. Godzilla just looked so freaking mean, and the MechaG design was so wicked cool. I thought Rodan looked abit weak, but it was cool anyway.

7. GODILLA '54
The original. A damn freaking masterpiece of cinema. Although I'm more of a fan of what Godzilla went on to become, this is where it all started. I'm not even sure if this was the first G movie I saw or what, but this leaves such a scary impression its in a class all of it's own. In college I went back and watched it for the first time in ages to do a report on how lighting affects the mood of a movie, and damn my appreciation and love of this film went way higher than ever. I can go on about this forever, but this is THE MOVIE.

8. GODZILLA 1985
It's slow yeah kinda, but I think that's just the way they wanted it. It was a direct sequel to the original, and I love every second of it. It's almost a true horror movie and I appreciate that. G looked wicked mean, although abit stoned. I loved the Super X, and it's just cool that Toho decided to make this the zero movie of the Hesei series.

9. DESTROY ALL MONSTERS
How can you deny this many monster in one freaking movie?! They were all here: G, Minya, Rodan, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Manda, Gorosaurus, Spiega, even Baragon and Varan! I hadn't even seen some of those before this! Such a great battle at the end, and a pretty cool out of continuity story.

10. GODZILLA VS. KING GHIDORAH
A cyborg Ghidorah?! Awesome! Totally awesome. The big fight in the city at the end is awesome, I never seen a bigger city model than in this movie. I was seriously in awe. Ok thats alot of awesome, but yeah.

11. GODZILLA VS. THE THING(mothra)
I'm not sure how that pesky Godzilla got in the ground there, but this movie has one of the cooler G intros ever. Of course G looks pretty rubbery in this movie. It rocks because of the Larva mothras' heart. I so wanted them to beat G in this one! And they do! It's just good fun.

12. KING KONG VS. GODZILLA
I loved King Kong also when I was young, although I grew outta him quickly. This though is a slobberknocker of a fight. KK is a true freaking powerhouse, although I was routing for the big G. I also thought this movie had the most memorable of the human characters in these early movies. And oh, all you hear is G's roar at the end of the Japanese version, not G actually swimming away.

14. MONSTER ZERO(godzilla vs.)
Haha, Godzilla dances! What goofy stuff, but a good 2 on 1 battle with G and Rodan taking on KingG in a rematch from G's prior movie...

15. GHIDRAH THE THREE HEADED MONSTER
Hey here's that movie now! Best part of this movie was again the spunk and courage of little Mothra. This was actually the last of the Showa series I saw, like this was never on in my area as a kid.

16. GODZILLA AND MOTHRA SAVE THE WORLD
Some nice scenary, good naval battle, and a wicked evil Mothra Battra, made this movie pretty freaking good.

17. GODZILLA VS. DESTROYAH
I dug Meltdown G in this one, and I thought the end with the new super charged baby G at the end made this movie really memorable. Destroyah reminded me of something out of a Heavy metal for some reason. This movie though has some pretty bad Aliens rip off scenes.

18. GODZILLA VS. BIOLLANTE
While this movie is actually pretty good, Biollante was just too weird of an idea for a Kaiju for me to really sink my teeth into.

19. GODZILLA VS. GIGAN
Also known as Godzilla on Monster island this tag team match of King Ghidorah and Gigan vs. G and Angilas is actually alot better than the placement of it on my list here, and I think it's actually higher up, but I forgot about for a sec and I'm not changing it now. The fighting is really good and I like the whole comic book/Gtheme park angle also.

20. GODZILLA' REVENGE
Yes without a doubt the worst G movie ever. BUT not my least favorite at all. See when I was a kid just like the main character I wanted to be Godzilla. I mean this kid was living my fantasy, how could I not relate and enjoy? Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

21. GODZILLA VS. SPACE GODZILLA
I love this movie for Baby Godzilla. Seriously. Mogera was laughable and Space G was annoying to look at it, but BabyG was just too cute. Ha.

22. SON OF GODZILLA
This was a cool movie with the birth of Minya and stuff, but i can't recall most of it, and I believe it made me cry when G and Minya were left in the snow at the end.

23. GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN(gigantis the fire monster)
The second movie, the debut of Angilas, some hard fighting done with both man in costumes and models, bad story but very human. this a cool movie.

24. GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER
I saw this one so much I got sick of it. Really. A weird ugly condor and Ebirah the giant lobster just didn't much for me either.

25. GODZILLA 2000
After the Tristar movie called Godzilla, I was hoping Toho would come back with something so kickass that it would make me forget all about the Tristar one. Unfortunately we got G2000 which was worse than the American movie!!! Well at least for me. I really didn't dig G's look at all,(although it gets worse in the next movie) the story is a mess and the alien monster ufo thing, Orga, while decent looking enough is really a tired concept used to death in the Heisei series of movies. It might be because of the hype Toho put on this film after the Tristar, I dunno.

26. GODZILLA X MEGAGURIOUS
Unfortunately for this movie it's fresh on my mind, and boy after watching it a second time I can honestly say I really don't like this one. Like 2000 I just cant dig this outfit, it's clunky, the neck looks weird, and his spikes are freaking purple!!! The effects could be better although theyre not that bad. The monster action moves weird and isn't engaging enough. And the story is an absolute mess, maybe in Japanese the story works better but this dubbed one is just a big crappy mess. So right now this one's at the end.

I chose these particular Godzilla films because I felt that they were the ones that best combined intelligent storytelling and human interest with striking visuals and comic-book excitement. On that basis, the first film stands head-and-shoulders above the others because it is such a serious motion picture – both in its stark depiction of the devastation caused by Godzilla (which evokes the effects of the Hiroshima blast) and in the morally complex performances by a brilliant ensemble cast. And, oddly enough, the oldest Godzilla film has the best visuals, thanks to a fortuitous combination of inventive photography, moody lighting, wondrous miniature sets, and one of the best-looking Godzilla costumes ever. Therefore, I feel quite strongly that the first film, Gojira, is not only the best Godzilla film ever, but one of the best movies ever made. Period. (And it is not out on Region 1 DVD in its original format!!!!!) The other Godzilla films, in comparison, are all just fun action movies (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Still, the best sequels make some attempt to continue the first film’s tradition of making important social and political statements with the human storyline. For example, GMK has a fascinating perspective on contemporary Japan’s view of WWII and King Ghidora is a wonderfully wicked skewering of 1990s America (which hated and feared Japan economic power).
…and the low-end of my top-ten features some fun films in which skipping ahead to the good parts (ie: rubber/CGI monsters fighting) is recommended without reservation).
