What happened to the jerk who pilots Mecha Godzilla?

What happened to the Mecha Godzilla pilot? I am referring to the guy who acts like a jerk and tripped the mechanic guy earlier in the movie?

Did he get out at some point? Or did he go down with Mech G into the ocean?
