Faith, the worst character ever in a sitcom

I mean it.
Faith is :
Parasite, annoying, irritating, hysterical, irresponsible, stupid, childish, lazy, proud of herself (whereas she's a looser), unfaithful, goofy, spoiled, she thinks everybody want to date her and above all she's extremelly selfish.

She deserves to be kicked out from the house. She's one of the worst character ever seen in a sitcom. She reminds me the character of CJ (David Spade) in 8 simple rules who is a little like her. But CJ is ten more sympathetic than her. CJ is a parasite, very childish and irresponsible, but at least he listens and tries to help when someone in the family needs to talk, he's grateful, he knows he's a looser (he said he didn't come to Paul's funerals because he was too ashamed of himself) and he becomes more mature in the third season. Whereas Faith doesn't change, she's still a parasite and totally self-centered, i like when Charley insults her or makes fun of her, but she deserves more than that.

I respectfully disagree concerning Charlie. Thought he was funny and the only good character on the show. I know Ted McGinley gets criticized because he often joins shows midway through their run (jump the shark), but he actually is a good actor (he was great on Married With Children) and was the best actor on the show in my opinion.

Even if this was the only TV show you've ever watched, I don't know that you could say the Faith CHARACTER was the worst ever unless you watched an episode without any guests. If it's just the core family members I could see how the annoying character could be the worst, but otherwise this is a silly thing to say...

I think the problem is that Faith just isn't a likeable character. She should have something about her that makes the viewer connect with her, but there is nothing. She's just plain annoying - which begs the question, why do Hope and her family put up with her? The writers never really explain this, which is frustrating for the viewer.

As for comparing Faith with other characters, the point with guest-stars is that they tend to only be in one or two eps, therefore, if they're annoying, at least you can think "Well, he/she is only in this ep", but Faith is in every single ep, so it's impossible to avoid her!

It's a pity Faith's character wasn't better written.

BTW - If we are including guest-stars in the 'unlikability' contest, I think I would put the Jenny McCarthy character (Mandi) in equal first place with Faith! Now she was definitely annoying, and nasty to boot - convincing H & F's father that he was the father of her child (when he wasn't) was a pretty low thing to do!

And i forgot, Faith is also a thief, nuts, sacarstic, narcisistic and ungrateful.
And that's right, you cannot identify with Faith, unless you are a fired famous actress/actor or/and a parasite.
It's supposed to be funny, but when she spoils, almost on purpose, Hope and Charley's night in a cold opener of an episode near the beginning or when she tries to be funny on stage and doesn't hesitate to humiliate Hope for no reason (an episode in the third season) or when she complains that charley's friend (Kenny i think) stays too long in the bathroom as if it was her house, or near the second season, when Hope finally obliges her to move (it was about time), all Faith finds to say is "my sister is deceased", i don't wanna laugh, i wanna slap her. A main character should be more sympathetic than that, not ridiculous and irritating as her.

If we think about it, none of the characters of this show are well writen, Justin is totally no use, he has two quotes an episode and has no personality at all. Hayley is so smart that she's more a caricature than realistic, too bad, because her boyfriend Edwin was a good and interesting idea and deserved more credits than that, but they didn't use Edwin as they should have used him, like Hayley he was too caricatural, and Hayley is also almost no use anyway. Sydney is so underused that it was not a problem to change the actress of the first season with another actress who doesn't look like the first one at all. And Sydney is just a copy of Bridget Henessy (8 simple rules) ten less interesting than her. Charley sometimes when he teases Faith, he reminds me Niles teasing CC Babcock in the nanny, but once again Niles is ten more funny than Charley. And Hope is not very sympathetic either, because she often neglects her family because of her stupid sister who doesn't give her anything in return.

So if we think about it, this show has almost nothing original, almost all the characters are superficial (especially the kids) and all the ideas for the episodes could be used to write an episode of another show that has better and more interesting Characters.

you mean worst charcter if she was REAL. by saying Faith is 'the worst character ever' you mean that if, in real life you were to meet a person with the same charastics as Faith you would dislike her. but its not real.

without Faith there would be no show. hence the name of it, hope AND faith. saying the caracter is bad implies the acting is bad, which i think we are agreed it is not?

just checking everyone knew its just telly.

I'm talking about the writing, not the acting. If i met somebody like faith, i wouldn't hate her, but i would stay away from her so she doesn't poison (maybe spoil) my life like she always does with everyone she meets, and i couldn't be able to stand a such selfish, stupid (and everything i already mentionned above) girl, nobody would be able to stand her if she was real anyway.

I'm saying that Faith is the worst character ever because she's not funny at all, when she does or says something, it's almost always (and i say almost to be nice) irritating instead of funny, because of Faith's bad behaviour. If Faith was a supporting character, that would probably be okay, but the show is focused on her. The main character of a show is supposed to be sympathetic and appealing so we can love and identify with him/her. But is Faith appealing and sympathetic? According to me, she's absolutely everything except appealing and sympathetic (if you don't think so, let me know why) and that's the problem and that makes her the worst character ever seen in a sitcom, because we have the impression that Faith is made to be hated. And plus(as if it wasn't already enough), she seems to have no purpose in life, which is another reason you cannot identify with her, unless you're like her and you squat in a family house and don't do anything evryday. Okay, we can admit, she's looking for the love, but when we see her behaviour once again, she maries the baseball player only to drive Hope mad (which is another reason to hate her, why does she try to drive her sister mad whereas she puts her up and takes care of her?), she deserves to stay alone.

There are other irritating characters in other sitcoms, like Fran Fine in the nanny. Carol, Mark, Karen Lambert in step by step. Bridget henessy in 8 simple rules. Malcolm in Malcolm in the middle and many others but Faith is very far the worst, for all the reasons i said.

Faith wasn't a very good charicter, but Hope I think is 100 times worse! This show is still ok I mean, but she is such a retard! I just watched one of the halloween episodes and I wanted to kick her she is so stupid! I've only seen a couple of episodes but still.

My mother was watching "Hope and Faith" on the WE channel and I sat down and watched a couple back to back epiosdes because I was bored. Not that great a show but it is entertaining.

Scotland. The show has that shame quality, as in many of us watch it but few would admit it. Faith is a terrible character and i dont know if its because she is always starring with her but Hope is terrible also. Charlie is at least sarcastic and funny. Sydney had the most non existant role of them all untill she was replaced for short time then came back (what happened there) now she gets to make a few jokes. But she is hot so ill overlook her failings. The younger one now seems to be the most ignored, i think they should make her sarcastic and moany like a middle child often is (like carrie from 8 simple rules). The boy WAS funny at times but maybe they should bring in some of his school friends or something to make him appear more normal. Ultimately i conclude that they are all dragged down by Faith and i bet she argued her contract so that shes in most of the scenes. Get rid of her and the show will not only survive but will be better. I also conclude that i watch ABC 1 far too often.

I'm from france in which the hearing of hope and faith was so poor(which is understandable) that they didn't even air the 5 last episodes and they put friends instead. Some of the french viewers are mad at the channel.

hey I would just like to say, i'm from England and they show it on ABC1! I wouldn't say its the BEST TV soap, I can think of more interesting things to watch. I do agree that all the characters are annoying in some sort of way, but it's something to watch when its raining!!

It looks like the French are the only ones with standards. I confess to watching this crap quite often although i wouldnt be ashamed of this if they got rid of Faith. She is just so annoying - as to the notion of her being sexually attractive...i almost puked. She is always waxing her lip and dressing ridiculously for someone her age...lets face it shes old...these are complete turn offs, nobody wants to see that. I am repulsed by the very thought of her as a sexual being.

It's being shown here in Australia on normal TV and also Pay TV. It's a terrific show and I think Faith is a great character...if she shows any annoying traits, it's all part of the humour. It's a comedy. Kelly rocks as Faith!

Faith does try (very breifly, might I add) after the award show, where she cleans Charley's car. She's extremely idiotic, which adds to the comedy. Both sisters are complete opposites, and neither is complete without the other (Hence the name, Hope & Faith).

For Canadian's, Hope & Faith is viewable on CMT. 8:00 PM EST.

She's incredibly annoying, yes. But there was an episode, Season 2 I think it was, where they're talking about their mother. I can't really remember much about it but I remember thinking it was heartwarming and that Faith was a really good character in that particular episode. She has her moments.

You watch this show for one reason: to look at Kelly Ripa and Megan Fox- and see what revealing outfits they wear.

Do you really think people care about the characters, plots, dialogue, storylines, etc etc??

Then you really don't know what gets ratings: hot chicks in skimpy oufits. I watch it with the mute button on.
