the grapes, in hazel grove?

i was just wondering about the setting? i was told the grapes pub in early doors was meant to be the actual grapes pub in hazel grove, which is nearby to me.
also i remember one episode mentioning going to the bamboo club, which is a pretty im/famous club in the area

any ideas?

Craig Cash lives in Marple and a lot of the roads mentioned are around Stockport, e,g. Birdhall Lane in the first episode. The Grapes is probably a composite, I feel like I've been in loads of boozers like it in me time!

The grapes in Hazel Grove is a rather different pub than the one in Early Doors. Theres also a Grapes on Didsbury road in Heaton Mersey, but I don't think its there either. As an Ex Stockport black cab driver I reckon its got to be a composite of the many pubs in Edgeley.
There are many local geographical references, for example Birdhall lane .... but its several miles away from Mc Vities in real life.

But are we all agreed though that the Royle Family is Wythenshawe?

Yep, a pub in Heaton Moor is where it is.

It's meant to be the Plough, in Heaton Moor. Apparently.

The writers on DVD commentary made it clear it wasn't ever based on one pub. More of a composite. Ken was loosely based on a barman called Ken they used to know. Old Tommy was based on many old gits they'd seen in pubs before. Another pub they'd been in used to have coppers sat in the back room.

Apparently, it's not one pub. But they got a lot of ideas based on a number od different pubs they'd visited.

Not Hazel Grove, Craig's from Heaton Norris and that's where the Grapes is. It's on what was Old Road (now Quantock Close) at the top of Dodge Hill and Gordon Street at the top of the Rec (Heaton Norris Recreational Park to all you posh people in the Grove!) behind Love Lane. It's a Boddies house and it was on The Norris Boys pub crawl route, Hazel Grove and the Bamboo were just for stag do's. I know, I was there!
