how does danny phantom defeat the ghosts?(and other dumb questions)

i know that sounds stupid,but i haven't watched the show in a long time.my sister asked me to write an am.drag. danny phantom crossover fanfic,and i'm cool with it,i just need to know some of the simple stuff bout danny phantom.how does he get rid of the ghosts,what's the big special ghost machine called,and where do they live?like what state/city...i already have a basic outline drawn for this fanfic,but i'm open to ideas of all sorts.if you would like to know what my fanfiction's gonna be basically about,just message me or reply and i'll message you.

He uses the Fenton Thermos to catch most of them, but first he weakens them with different powers (like ghost beam, ghostly wail etc).
The city they live in is called Amity Park, don't know what state it is in though...

They never reveal the state's name, but we know they drove through a desert to get to Vlad's house. And they got to a tropical beach fairly quickly while fighting Technus. So, from that I'd deduce that he lives in California, Oregon or Washington.
