Kellys is a victim of style shift.

As a member of the WGA-East, I am personally experiencing a shift in the desires and needs of the people in industry who pay my bills. There is no more room for slow paced sitcoms or melodramas. I submitted a project last week that represents a totally different style than I had ever used. I commented to friends and family that I was not even sure what I wrote, but it filled the need of the person who bought it.
Kelly's fell victim to a slow pace. It was also to cerebral for an audience who needs to have everything spelled out in detail such as the current wave of sitcoms. This was also the case with Bonnie and Yes Dear. All these were excessively cornball. The newest sitcom, Rodney, takes into account the problems associated with a Southwestern based theme and increases the bar to that of ELR and KoQ. Other programs that share this fast-paced writing include George, 8 simple, Jim, and Still Standing.
One exception seems to be 2.5 men. It is incredibly slow. Star power keeps it going yet I am not sure for how long it will survive.

I am glad to see the swing back to scripted programming instead of producing more reality trash. I have not viewed one single reality show outside of Simple Life. You can guess why a single guy wants to watch that program....
