I couldn't stand Elgin's character!

When I first saw this movie (in 9th grade), I thought it was cool. Now as an adult, I can see why it has low ratings.

For starters: Elgin was an a-hole!! I understand he got beat up, a broken leg, and got jacked, but why was he mad at David? It wasn't his fault, it was his sister who turned off his phone. Plus he wouldn't listen to her when she tried to explain this.

Second: Why did he try to forbid his sister from hooking up with David? I get he's overprotective, but David is a sweet guy that he's been friends with for a long time not a stranger who is up to no good. Besides, she's at least 18 (since she's in college) and therefore, old enough to choose who to date. She's not in middle school.

Third: Even if David showed up, that wouldn't stop the local thugs from jumping him. There was at least 5 of them ganging up on Elgin. Who's to say they wouldnt jump BOTH of them? All David could have done is maybe call the cops.

Good breakdown on Elgin. Perhaps, in the end, it was he who should have gotten served.

Exactly! If David was there, both of them would have gotten jumped and hurt. And then he would have still been mad at David for being there or would have found something else to be mad at him about.
