The Worst Movie ever

This movie is boring, there's almost nothing except the forest.I was expecting great battles and epic adventures, but it was nothing but about a man who could not forget his past and keeps thinking about it.There's no other place than the forest and that desert.
The worst movie ever!!!!

If you think THIS movie is bad, then you need to watch "Pod People" or "Manos: the Hand of Fate". Westender is the director's debut with no budget and nonpaid actors. Cut him some slack.

reply

No kidding. The sad thing is I was more impressed with this movie than alot of todays main streem High budget Hollywood pump outs. Hailing from Oregon, it was nice to see our forests and sand dunes on screen for once. I thought it was good.

Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen. Bear it well..."

The forrest scenes were lush, the costumes were creative and the makeup was inspired. What happened to having a cohesive story? Something that the audience could engage in and follow. That was the main thing missing in the movie.

I wouldn't say it was a Worst Movie, just ambitious and underdeveloped.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Hi! I just watched the movie at the weekend and I am kicking myself that I wasted €10 on this tripe! It was obvious they were struggling for a story when we were all subjected to 30 minutes of watching a man walk with some dramatic music. Having read about the actors on the IMDB its easy to see why they have not worked much beyond this movie. OK, it was made on a small budget, but it would have been better spent on something fun!

When is your movie coming out? ;)

I found this movie surprisingly enjoyable. Yes there are things you can criticize about it -- tops on my least was the often weak acting in most roles other than the lead character, and the overly long stretches of introspection and excessive time spent wandering through the wilds of Oregon. As beautiful as the scenery was this film should really have been about 20-25 min shorter in order to move the story along at a more reasonable pace. But still given the budget constraints this film was fantastic -- the visuals throughout were well above average and the storyline was quite a bit more orginal than the majority of todays recycled hollywood garbage.

I'm looking forward to seeing what these guys can come up with next. Well done.

Hrm...
What do you think was original about the plot, specifically? A drunken man who's tormented over a love that was killed. That's pretty typical dude, really. The comedic relief of a thief/jester, a wise old man that gives him inspiration (and then mysteriously disappears as though never there), a gypsy woman love interest, etc. The disappearing old man trope was lampooned in Holy Grail years earlier, even. You could have plugged Mel Gibson into the role for another "ARGH I'VE LOST MY FAMILY I'M SUCH A WRECK" film. Gibson loves those. ;)

The bottom line is that it's perfectly fine to have an introspective film filled with landscape and reflection and wandering, but it has to be backed by powerful acting and storytelling for it to work. Well, good dialogue/script too, good editing, the whole shebang really. And sadly, I don't think Westender achieved it.

reply

No, the plot wasn't original... but we must remember that this is a first attempt at a full length feature with a shoe-string budget. I think it's too much to ask for great acting when you can't pay high dollar for it. The director has a lot to learn, obviously, but he does have a strong eye for cinematography. If anything he could find a career in that department. The film will not win oscars but it was visually entertaining (minus the mindless wandering through desert scenes) for what it's worth.

Really, I wasted more than a hour of my life watching this stinking movie. I know is low budget but this doesn't mean it has to stink so badly; The story line is awful, the costumes are ridiculous, the soundtrack made me want to spit at the screen. But let me tell you: I got a DVD (thank Gowd it was for free)and on the cover they displayed a white horse (???), that blond weird-alien looking character that appears in the desert and dies in 5 seconds, and A CASTLE. Funny because NO CASTLE APPEARS on that movie. The cover had nothing to do with the actual story! Talk about cheating the public...
And what was that make-up stuff? Purple eyeshadow everywhere. "- Hey I cutted my face!" Purple eyeshadow. "- Hey, i got punched in the eye!" Purple eyeshadow for ya! I bet they bought 5 tons of that stuff. Half of the budget was spent on purple eyeshadow. When the main character feels cold in the woods, what do they do? Light Purple eyeshadow all over him! He looks like a blue zombie of the old Dawn Of The Dead.
The acting is ridiculous. When that Asbrey guy gets mad he looks like a fat nerd who didn't got his internet connection to watch porn.
That black wolf sightings CLICHE thing, it had to be there? Really? Asbrey felt like a black lonewolf? Pleeeeaaaase. To me, he should have visions of Yogi Bear. That fatty knight.
Don't get me talking about that desert scene... How boring can they get? It seems like forever for a scene that supposed to mean something deep like "a chubby bastard lost in the desert searching for his dignity" and gets going like "Fatso, you could die right now and that ridiculous movie would end".

Comon...

that's the problem when someone seems to write a script based on scenery....

beautiful movie. just boring and pointless. maybe if he tried directing someone else's stories.

actually, all that was needed was some foam on the weapons and this could be an oregon LARPing documentary. very nearly. would need more magic missles though.

When I first saw this movie 3 years ago, I was stunned at the depth of it. I asked others (friends) who also saw it, and while they liked it very much, didnt understand the meaning behind the wolf, the old man, the dead knight, the so-called pointless long scenes of the woods and the desert. This was all part of a deeper story....and like some prior comments, you had to think about it. This was the brilliance behind it.
M. Night Shyamalan tells stories in a similar fashion...albeit on a grand budget.
And I agree that most movies these days do not allow the viewer to put the pieces together. Even if they are supposed to, and the movie is meant for the viewer to think, they somehow dumb it down (like the SAT) so we can pass. I wonder how many folks these days try reading Last of the Mohicans. No, not for a particular subject to get graded. Read it for the understanding. To think about the depth of what is said, the imagery, and put pieces together.

In my opinion I believe this was part of the budgeted goal of Brock Morse (with Rob Simonsen and Matt Molitor-great camera work). No special effects (they couldnt afford it anyway), no over the top action non-sense. Plain and simple story-telling at it's finest.

This is one of my top 20 movies.
I'm just sorry their budget was as limited as it was. Then again limited budgets have brought forth creative genius.
I would be glad to share personal introspect and other views on the movie.

I was able to watch this movie on fast forward for 5 solid minutes and NOTHING HAPPENED...

You can build up the deeper meanings all you want, and try to insert some sort of "You just don't understand it" mentality to it but in the end it was nicely shot, but poorly acted, written, paced and directed.

I have read Last of the Mohicans. I get it.
M. Night Shyamalan should not even be mentioned in the same breath as this movie. Shyamalan paces his movies well...he uses pauses to build tension...not to show off the fact that Oregon has a desert. He brings in characters that are crypic but have a point or explanation to them, not to have a mystical hut in the woods appear as either an out of nowhere show of magic or as a convenient halucination.
He shows backstories that are developed...not hints at some sort of loved one's death and a sad battle.

I could film an apple on a table for an hour and a half and say that it is up to you to fill in the story around it...and I would sound deep...but I would not have made a good movie.

reply

I appreciate your opinion, and the least this movie has done is garnered the responses of either: 1.Hated it 2. Loved it

While we may disagree on most points, I do agree with you that there were absolutely long scenery shots. However, there is a point to it.
It was obviously not your kind of movie.

And filming an apple.
Hmmm...
Im thinking an apple as well, but with a desert back drop....(laughing)

Until you've seen "Manos the Hands of Fate," don't declare any movie the worst movie ever made.

I wish I could get that hour and a half back of my life.

Very funny comments, by the way! I will admit the movie was not the best movie made. Compared to Dune, or LOTR, or perhaps Crusader, or whatever, it is definitely Low budget. But it is NOT a 'B' movie, nor is is as terrible as everyone is saying.

I am a re-enactment actor, and fighter, wearing usually 90 pounds of plate armour and chain whilst doing it, and it is refreshing to see a movie that takes this into account, however, the fact that Westender doesn't wear a helmet ANNOYS THE HELL OUT OF ME! You would NEVER see that Historically. It just isn't sensible, with all that metal flying around, and besides...historically, Knights wouldn't have Long hair either! Just to make the Hero look good, is NOT a good reason to be this blisteringly Dumb! That said...the fight sequences were kinda dorky...but not nearly as dorky as some Big budget films, and some of the moves in this show were actually real! Nice Guards, real type dueling, German and Italian moves...very nice to see!

Do not judge the film with others...enjoy it for what it is...Legend with Tom Cruise was worse....Lady Hawk was great, but lacked this films imagery and music....

Quit complaining about it, and just enjoy the flic...it wasn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

I was thinking I was very fortunate to have found it in a video store....it's nice to have something Indy on my shelf. I am a Canadian as well, and one day I hope to make a film like this one. It will have better fight sequences, better Armour, Better Music (Irish), and a better plot line and acting.....but it will also cost me my life savings...but worth every penny! Why? Because I told my story and made it visual for the entertainment of others. Who could ask for more? Kudos to those who did so with this pic! www.livingbackwards.ca
