Oh neat, another movie where women are disposable victims...

I really wanted to like this movie - the mood was great, the acting decent - whoever played Kenny was a bit miscast...but, honestly, how disappointing that every female character was mutilated, most killed, and all referenced as either bitches or kunts. Seriously, whoever wrote this has severe female issues and the opening credits were shameful. It's as if they were glorifying kidnapping and rape.

How would men feel if women continuously made films of chopping off men's dicks, then killing them, and their women went off to be heroes to get the bad guy. Men's only purpose being that of a mutilated victim referenced as a cock who "looked scared." Doesn't sound so appealing now, does it?

For those that "enjoyed" this movie, I'm curious as to why.

It wasn't "glorifying" kidnapping or rape. The villains aren't appealing in the least... They are despicable and horrifying and their actions are never portrayed as fun or cool.

I find Oscar Bait infinitely more interesting than ticket bait

Either way, whoever wrote this hates women.

If you look at Scott Frank's other movies, he has written very good roles for women... Jennifer Lopez in "Out of Sight", Emma Thompson in "Dead Again", Samantha Morton in "Minority Report" (identified as the most skilled precog precisely because she is a woman), etc.

This movie was an exception.

It always amazes me when people see one movie and think they can analyze the writer/director's psyche.

Hey, I've got a movie you might like: Big Driver
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3831810/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

I got it because Maria Bello's probably my favorite actress. In the last couple of months I've thus far only skimmed it because it seems dark and slow, but it looks like something you might appreciate.

(You might want to wait to get it. IMDB says it's streaming for $15, and I'm almost certain I got it from Redbox for $1.50)

I don't remember all the women being referred to as bitches and kunts, Heartland. The guys even wanted their women back, almost as if they loved them and cared about them! 😀 They also had major personal flaws, like alcoholism and dealing and using drugs, killing an innocent child, and cowardice. Hardly male role models.

In any case, I think you really should take the case up with the serial killers and torturers out there, who are mostly male. Or do you want moviemakers to pretend there's gender equality in the world of serial killers, sadistic torturers, drug dealers, and thuggish muscle? Will that advance whatever agenda you have? You like those action films where 110lb women are always beating the crap out of 200lb hardened martial artists, do you? Usually looks fake to me, so I'm not a big fan.

I liked it because it surprised me on a couple of occasions. For example, I was sure the kid was going to be taken hostage for an extended period. In movies like this, where the protagonist has lost his family and you're pretty sure he can always take care of himself, the filmmaker usually adds someone in, like the kid, to be put in jeopardy so it feels like the prot himself is in jeopardy. Didn't happen.

There were also a lot of really minor things that I liked, for example when Neeson did the double window knock when the cop wasn't going to check out where he was hiding.

How would men feel if women continuously made films of chopping off men's dicks, then killing them, and their women went off to be heroes to get the bad guy. Men's only purpose being that of a mutilated victim referenced as a cock who "looked scared." Doesn't sound so appealing now, does it?

I think you've got some issues if you "continuously" see the opposite of what you're describing. As to whether I'd like a movie such as you describe, I don't know. I only see two real problems: I'd be holding my dick in sympathetic pain every time one got cut off. And men come across as more powerful and threatening when they try to beat the *beep* out of each other, thus adding to the suspense.

I think you've convinced me to add another 2 points to my rating, because I get so sick of this kind of whining.

Shut up, you SJW feminazi.

Woman are victims of serial killers an atrocious amount of times, so it's just accurate. Woman need to have a plan, training a defensive tool to change that statistic.

How would men feel if women continuously made films of chopping off men's dicks . . . Men's only purpose being . . . as a cock who "looked scared."

Not THAT sounds crazy. Crazy Wonderful, that is!

Listen, *beep* the modus operandi of the killers was to find women and chop them up. Go read about some real life serial killers. It happens all the time and you saying "it's not fair" won't change that.
Take it for what it is. A story.

Matthew Schudder is Stoic Alcoholic Anti-Hero living in his own created Purgatory. The book are great and full of interesting characters.

The 30-60 million dollar Adult movie is rarely made in Hollywood these days. So if one gets some good reviews I try my best to see it.

Most of Violence against Women in this movie is implied. The opening scene is Horrifying and basically shows us the evil that protagonist will face. The serial killers are shown as sick, demented and sinister. Just about everyone is flawed in their world of moral ambiguity.

There was a female hooker with a heart of gold but scenes got cut. Its dark material but it doesn't come close to any of the sexist things on Game of Thrones.

Game of thrones is sexist? lol....I suppose it is (purposefully) but if you mean it like GRR Martin is sexist or the showrunners are sexist I think you're being overly sensitive.

Most serial killers are male, most victims are women, it's just a fact. I thought the opening credits were very clever, starting off like a loving scene and then giving us the dawning horror of what was actually happening. There are lots of films made where the female lead is the ass kicking hero and the guys are loser idiots. I don't hear guys complaining about that. Just to be clear, I am female.
