Judgement Day 2003 Review

Bought this tape about a year ago off eBay for about $5 and never got around to watching it. Haven't heard good things about it from other critics so let's see what happens.

We are live from Charlotte and our hosts are JR and King for Raw and Cole and Tazz for Smackdown. Co Raw GM Austin opens up the show and drinks a beer with Tazz and heads into the crowd.

Match #1

Six Man Tag Team Match

Chris Benoit, Rhyno And Spanky Vs John Cena and The FBI w Nunzio

Cena busts out a good rap before the match starts, this was probably Cena's best year of his career, entertainment wise. The faces clear the ring and Kendrik somersault planchas over Benoit and Rhyno onto the heels outside. Kendrik whacks Cena with an enzuiguri to start in the ring then Stamboli and Palumbo beat the snot out of Spanky. He fights out of the corner and makes the tag to Benoit, who suplexes the heels and goes up for the flying headbutt on Palumbo. Nunzio tries a run in and gets gored, as Kendrik tags in and hits a missile dropkick on Cena. Sliced Bread #2 is blocked by Palumbo, and the Kiss of Death KO's him at 3:55. WAAY too short for an opener and a six man tag. Im only giving this 1 1/2 star.

Meanwhile in the skybox, Austin and Bishoff are having a drinking and eating contest, whatever.

Match #2

Tag Team Match

Scott Steiner And Test w Stacey Keibler Vs La Resistance

Test stomps a mudhole in Dupree to start and Steiner comes in to beat on him next. Steiner does the pushups but the "evil" Frenchman cheapshot him and send him outside. Back in, Grenier gets a suplex for 2. Steiner charges and eats shoe then Grenier comes out of the corner with a clothesline
for 2. Dupree comes off the top gets suplexed for his trouble in a goofy spot. Steiner makes the hot tag to Test and he clotheslines everybody. Things get really sloppy as La Resistance misses a cue for a pinfall attempt, and then Test steals a beret while Grenier hides behind the ref. He tries a Flair pin but only for 2. Steiner gets a suplex on Dupree and Test pumphandles Grenier, but Stacy is distracting the ref. Test takes a bump into her, and she takes a fall into the arms of Steiner, and Test gets rolled up for 2. Steiner comes back in and gets a sloppy flatliner. Test boots him by mistake and then Resistance flapjacks Steiner for the pin at at 6:21. Teasing a breakup between the faces but they would be back together as a woman abuser tag team. Crap Raw tag team match. 1 star.

Backstage ace reporter Gregory Helms interviews Mr America. Both think they have the other figured out.

Match #3

Smackdown Tag Team Championship Match

Team Angle Vs Eddie Guerrero And Tajiri

Chavo got injured so Eddie picked Tajiri. They should of just had a handicap match. Eddie gets sent into the ladder by Benjamin while Tajiri drops Haas with a spinkick. TA beat up Tajiri and Eddie returns to the ring. He gets hit with a double gutbuster, and Team Angle retrieves a ladder from under the ring. Tajiri tries to hit Haas with a pescado and almost kills himself on the way. Team Angle tries to climb, but Tajiri uses a handspring to knock them down, and Haas gets a ladder wedged into his crotch. They sandwich him between two ladders and Tajiri slingshots Eddie onto the ladders and Haas gets squashed. Tajiri climbs but gets stopped by Benjamin. Benjamin then goes up and gets dropkicked off by Eddie. Benjamin then powerslams Eddie on a ladder. Team Angle puts Tajiri onto another ladder against the ropes, as Benjamin comes off a ladder with a super leapfrog on Tajiris back. Haas climbs, but Eddie knocks him to the floor. He gets whipped into the ladder by Benjamin, and Shelton climbs but Tajiri kicks it over. He spears them with the ladder and knocks them down and out, and then baseball slides the ladder into Benjamin. Tarantula for Haas, which Benjamin interrupts with the ladder. Eddie is left alone and gets whomped by TA. Eddie monkey flips Shelton into a ladder. Eddie tosses Haas and climbs, but again gets interrupted by Team Angle. Haas follows him up, but Eddie knocks him off and then comes down onto Benjamin with a frog splash from the ladder. Haas takes advantage and climbs up again, but Eddie gets him with a sunset flip powerbomb off the ladder that everybody loves so much. Eddie climbs up again, but now Benjamin tries to stop him , but Tajiri makes his return and in a nice spot he climbs the opposite side of the ladder and mists Benjamin through the rungs so Eddie can grab the belts at 14:21. Standard good ladder match. 3 stars. But a waste of a title change because Team Angle got them back soon enough and the bookers tried making Eddie go heal on Tajiri but he got such a huge facepop that they dropped the whole subject. Eddie and Tajiri never should of gotten the belts in hindsight.

In the skybox, Austin and Bishoff drink more beer, and backstage Piper and Jericho blow smoke up eachothers asses.

Match #4

Vacant Intercontinental Championship Battle Royale

Kane, Rob Van Dam, Chris Jericho, Goldust, Christian, Lance Storm, Val Venis And Booker T

It's supposed to be only former IC champs but Booker gets put in by Austin earlier in the week which kinda defeats the gimmick. Also, for the home video release, Booker has his ****ty Wrestlemania 18 video game theme music dubbed in for some ungodly reason. Chief Morely got fired about a week ago by Bishoff then rehired by Austin and now he's back to Val Venis for the third time in his career and it's just lame. Everybody stands around while Kane and RVD fight then everyone gangs up on Kane and the crowd boo's in one of those spots where they usually cheer the big guy going out tease, I guess the crowd is pro Kane here. Kane tosses Storm quickly then gets dumped out by everybody and the crowd boo's. Kane chokeslams everyone before leaving. Test misses something and falls out then Venis goes byebye by Jericho. RVD gets to go next in an upset which leaves BlackDust against Team Canada. The heels knock one guy down and gang up on another while the other one is down. Eventually the heels rally and they set C and C up for shattered dreams. Goldust punts both of them and Booker does a spinerooni. Goldust attempts a toss but Booker counters and throws him out but they both laugh it off. Then Booker gets trounced by the heels for a good while until the best part of the match. Jericho goes for a lionsault and while he's on the ropes Christian shoves him out and theyre teasing a falling out but it won't happen for another 8 months or so. The suck kicks in as the ref gets bumped and Booker tosses Christian to win the belt and everybody cheers. Christian sneaks back in and pops him with the belt and then deadlifts the corpse out of the ring and he falls to the floor where the ref is laying. The ref recovers and awards the belt to Christian at 11:40ish. Crowd is initially disgusted and just decides to sit on their hands while Christian celebrates. Terrible finish. 2 stars.

Next we go to a bikini contest between Sable and Torrie. The usual garbage they use to eat up time on Smackdown. FF.

Match #5

Singles Match

Rowdy Roddy Piper w Sean Ohaire Vs Mr America

Mr America brings out the amputee from the previous week and his name is Zach Gowen. The heels double team MR A and he fends them off and we start. America rams Piper into the turnbuckles punches away, but Sean pulls him out and gets punked. Piper gets the weightlifting belt and starts hitting Mr A but he fights back and Ohare cheapshots again to change the tide. Piper with a sleeper but Mr A fights out as expected and gives him the three punches and a big boot then McMahon shows up with a lead pipe. Piper goes low and Ohaire runs in with the pipe, but he clocks Piper so Mr America can do the legdrop and pin at 4:40. Gowen stops Vince from breaking the pin attempt. Yeesh. 1/2 star.

Backstage Stephanie tells HHH to be careful in one of those awkward moments but theyre supposedly divorced so why does she give a ****? Only because she's considerd the face GM I guess.

Match #6

Raw Championship Match

HHH w Ric Flair Vs Kevin Nash w Shawn Michaels

HHH shaved for the ppv and looks like he's been transported to the future form 2000. Fight immediately breaks out and Flair and Shawn immediately fight to the back never to be seen again until the end of the match. Nash elbows him down and uses the kneesin the corner and a backdrop. Outside and Nash posts him. Back in, big boot and a bodyslam and elbow drop. HHH goes to the eyes to gain a moment, and then shoves down the ref. But the match continues. Looks like Steiner/HHH/Rumble all over again. HHH returns fire with punches, but gets clotheslined. Nash goes back to the punching again, and shoves the ref and now Nash is coming off as the heel in this thing. HHH knocks the ref down and ball shots Nash. HHH undoes the turnbuckle, but Nash catches him with a sideslam. Big boot, and the ref gets bumped a fourth time as HHH sends Nash into the steel and Pedigrees him for 2. Nash backdrops him to block another Pedigree, but HHH grabs his trusty sledgehammer, and the ref gets shoved with it, for the fifth time, and THAT IS A DQ ENDING AT 7:44. Crowd is disgusted with the whole shmozz. Nash kicks the **** out of HHH all the way back to the raw table up by the ramp and Nash shoves Michaels away and is looking like a full blown heel and he jacknifes HHH dead through the table. JR and Lawler do the Owen Hart speech for the piece of garbage HHH. Call it 1 star, which MIGHT be a little too lenient.

In the skybox, Austin brings out jalapeno peppers and Bishoff finally blows chunks. We get replays because the gross factor wasn't up high enough for the ppv.

Match #7

Fatal Four Way Womens Championship Match

Jazz Vs Trish Stratus Vs Victoria Vs Jaquelyn

Jackie gets a suplex on Jazz for 2, but Victoria goes after her. The sideslam gets 2, but Jazz breaks it up and chickenwings her, and Jackie. Trish back in and she punches Jazz, and a clothesline gets 2. Jazz catches her with the STF, and Jackie gets a half crab on Victoria. Trish makes the ropes, so Jazz breaks it up and puts another STF on Victoria. Trish breaks that up. Victoria and Jaquelyn leave Trish and Jazz alone, and they slug it out. Trish works in her matrix dodge and chick kicks Jazz for 2. Trish gets the rana on both heels, but gets dumped trying the bulldog and she spills outside kinda rough and she's gone from the match. Jazz kills Jaquelyn with a ddt and gets the pin at 4:45. 1 1/2 star.

Match #8

Smackdown Championship Stretcher Match

Brock Lesnar Vs The Big Show

Prematch video of Show dropping Mysterio on his face at Backlash for the 50th time. Lesnar charges in and knocks Show silly with the stretcher and he gets knocked outside. Brock and Show hit eachother with stretchers. Show chokeslams him and uses a legdrop, and then puts Brock on the rolling gerni but can't get him past the duct tape line on the floor to win. Brock comes back and chokes him out with the camera cable. Show is almost dead so Brock puts him on the stretcher but Show grabs a power cable and can't be rolled away. They end up KO ing eachother and laying on the floor. Brock sends another stretcher into him, and they have a tug of war. Brock gets sent into the post and Show finds another backboard for some damage, but Brock knocks him off the apron and onto the stretcher, but Show falls off and thus the match continues. Rey does a run in and gets on Shows back until the big ape pulls him off and wrecks him. Brock does the only good spot in the match. He tears in on a forklift then dives off the top and clothelsines Show. He gets a nice vertical suplex and a weak F-5 and puts him on the Forklift to win it at 15:27. Technically not a stretcher. Except for the morbidly obese. Which has been an on and off joke for Big Show since 2000 or so. Call it 2 1/2 stars I guess.

Overall Opinion: Another generic throwaway show. The ladder match was the best thing and everything else was nothing worth seeing unless your a completionist.

Final Score: This show gets a boring 3.3 out of a perfect 10.0 star rating from me.
