Stop casting rappers!

What could've been a good movie was completely ruined for me by the most unrealistic choice for a chess wizard. Typically, a chess wizard should be a social shut-in, normally an old russian dude or some guy who doesn't do well with others. Not some guy who sings about shakin it like a polaroid picture. I swear so many potentially good movies have been destroyed by casting departments doing favors for rap stars. Stop making me try to believe Andre 3000 can act. Oh yeah, Big Puss doesn't exactly cut it for a quantum physics guy either, but that's another discussion.

....no....no...no....keep casting rappers!

I said no pal.

i agree with you, hoss

reply

No, cast actors, even if they do 'something else'. How many chess 'wizards' do you know? Of the hundred or so you know, are they all either old russians or shut ins or socially inept? You've been watching too many cheezy movies.

I thought he did fine. Not great, but not bad by any means.
And Andre 3000 isn't a "rap star"...at least not by what you probably consider a "rap star". He's a smart guy, there's a reason Ritchie cast him.

If you're whining about rappers being cast, you missed the point of the movie. And I'm not being pretentious, you really missed the point of the movie.

Get Rid of them..they ruined the film.

reply

You are a "sell out."

reply

Andre almost ruined the movie. I liked the movie quite a bit but his acting was terrible. They really should've gotten someone different for that role.

A white russian shut-in perhaps? :)

@Flynn2 How are you saying he's not a rapper? He's one of the greatest rappers of all-time and has even shown up on a Lil' Wayne track within the past 6 months.

That being said, he was pretty bad at acting in this movie.

I wouldn't have had any problem with him being cast in this role if he was good in it...but ya know...he wasn't. Nothing wrong with the race or appearance or anything...just can't act.

TOTAL agreement. He sounded like he was reading off a card in every scene.

Wu-Tang Clan, the most prolific rap group of the (mid) 90s, built their entire brand around kung fu and chess playing... especially GZA's material.

Ooh yes, they quoted Chinese kung fu films. That makes them scholars.

Your low intelligence and lack of critical thought, as well as unpolished, brutal, uneducated mind, are exactly "Wu Tang clan's" target audience.

That's not even close to being implied by what I stated ...and I'm not really a fan of Wu-Tang so... I have no idea why you jumped into a year-old conversation with completely irrelevant and irreverent comments...

The fact he's a rapper didn't bother me, just the fact he's a *beep* actor.

reply

You are an idiot. Damn, look at yourself.

reply

yes because it totally makes sense for a frail russian shut-in to be in SOLITARY CONFINEMENT.

reply

so what you are saying, they should have hired you for the part, aye?

ive had a little bit too much to think tonight
