Captain Roy Brown shot down by Von Richthofen?

I checked and I can't find a single entry to suggest B v R ever shot down Capt Roy Brown.

Cinematic licence?

Absolutely never happened. Brown and von Richtofen never met in the air until April 21 1918, let alone face to face.

It would have made for good theatre though...

Next thing they'll be breeding us like cattle. You've gotta tell them. SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!

Friends,

Yes, I read that this movie centers around Von Richtofen shooting down and pulling Brown out of his plane, and I'm like "WTF?!?!?!?!". Never happened. The closest the two ever got was in the air when Brown dove on Von Richtofen to save a novice pilots life on April 21, 1918 and opened fire at roughly the same time as an Australian AA crew. This double barrage resulted in Von Richtofens death. All my life I've wanted to see a faithful screening of the mans life, and it looks like I still don't get to see it. One thing they did hit on though was the casting. I checked the age of the actor playing V.R., and he's not only the right age, he's also got the right hair color, and no moustache. Anybody remember those "RED BARON" pizza commercials of a quarter century ago? The guy had to be in his mid-30s, with DARK brown hair and a stache you could hide a Fokker in. And John Philip Law was in his early 30's when he played the part in 71's, "Von Richtofen and Brown". Gotta run. Later. CKB.

godcharles,

Right on about the casting - many of the actors look a LOT like the real people they're portraying. Schweighofer's face looks like it was chiseled from a mold made from Richthofen's very own. To get really nit-picky, I would say that I think Schweighofer's haircut could have been a little more like Richthofen's, and the other thing is that Schweighofer is a noticeably tall man - certainly much taller than the real Richthofen, who was around 5'8".

Some of the major shortcomings of this movie are that Schweighofer not only bears no resemblance to von Richthofen, he looks like a high school kid. In contrast, Von Richthofen looked like a mature young man, even though he was only twenty-five when he was killed, a year younger than Schweighofer was when the movie was made.
