I actually prefered this Lucifer to the one played by Viggo Mortensen's character. The reason for this, is because the war in heaven between the angels, was because God favored mankind over the angels that came before us. Lucifer thought that they should have favor, so filled with hubris led many of the angels in heaven and himself agains God and his loyal angel followers. In the movie it talks about Belial going against Satan and trying to build a 'new hell' (he is concidered to be true evil unlike Lucifer who, in some religions is still true to God in many ways, but misguided) and he says to Satan that he has a lot of self-impossed limitations. I think that at this point, the movie is trying to get across that Satan wanting to be loved most by God was offended by God's favoritism of mankind, so he rebelled thinking it would change God's mind. After being cast out of heaven and living on earth for many years he sees that he was wrong, but knowing that he can not go back to heaven after everything he has done, and possibly because down here he has power, he is not going to embrace heaven and God, but still respect the wishes of God, the one he loves most (which I think he still does), but still does not think mankind should be favored over angels. You see that he wants power and people to go to hell, but you also see that he wants it to be fair(by not taking the book), and that he sees God as the highest being, and what he wishes will come true (the book of revelations). To me the war seems to be over how they will deal with mankind, not on who will be the highest leader. the war is to try to win the favor of God, not to replace him in heaven. Lucifer before being cast out of heaven was known as 'the light bearer' and was concidered by most an archangel (one of the highest angels in heaven). His only loyalty belonged to God and thought that he should not have to bow down to mankind. so in short, I felt that this Prophecy showed a side of Lucifer that is more true to Christen thought then to myth of the devil. Lucifer loved God above all else and felt betrayed when asked to be second to mankind and that is why there was a war, but I still think he loves God and respects man kind, for it is said that the angels envied mankind for their souls and for their ability to reason.
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe
