Well, I am not sure if it was a UK TV series, but here in the US they show Prime Suspect on PBS (Public Broadcasting). There are 6 series'. (Prime Suspect 1-5 are available on video). Great show!! They are crime dramas with Helen Mirren as the lead inspector. She starts out in PS1 as a Deputy and has to work her way up. So glad a new one is coming out!!

well it is a uk made series but a case only gets done every couple of years so its sort of a series.

I loved the show the only thing I have a question about wouldn't it have been easire
to have one of the police officers go to the housekeepers superior to find out where
Jasmeine was working. instead of everyone running around all over the hospital.

have a great and sober day

It's a series in the British sense, but more of a mini-series in the US sense. In the UK, a series means a block of epsiodes for a show; the equivalent of a season in the US, except there are usually fewer shows (24 in the us, anywhere from 6 to 13 to 20 epsiodes in the UK). However, they don't always do a new series (season) every year. There may be a couple of years gap, or more. Some of the detective shows, like PS and Touch of Frost have fewer epsiodes, compared to the comedies. A lot of that has to do with episode length and production cost. One of the advantages to the UK system is that they can revisit the show a few years down the road and pick up the character. Also, more time is spent on the writing, since they aren't churning out as many episodes as in the US. This allows for better character development. Prime Suspect really helped expand Helen Mirren's career, leading to better movie offers. As such, her availability for PS became more sporadic. PS 7 was the last and it was due, given the realities of Helen Mirren's age, as was the recent end of Touch of Frost.

It would be nice to see Tennison after retirement, but it is not necessary, as things were pretty well wrapped up. I suppose that if the right script comes along, Helen Mirren might do another.
