...sucks

I remember watching this movie twice, and I fell asleep on both times. THe gun battles are really a joke, Instead of people running around, it's just a bunch of people standing in one spot and shooting. Watch WILD ZERO instead.

who cares? it's Gackt and Hyde. it's more fanservice than anything else, although i thought it was cute in and of itself.

reply

Dude, The plot sucks too. And they can't even decide what language to speak,

You think Wild Zero has more of a plot then moon child? O_O

reply

riiiight coz they have to speak the same language all the way through it. o__O Let's look at every single movie that has more than one language and call them all crap.

reply

Actually, the reason they don't speak the same language the entire time is because Mallepa is inhabited by people from all different parts of Asia.... one guy even tells another not to speak one of the languages to him because it isn't the language of his gang or whatever.

I thought that everything was well done except for the plot.
There were way too many ideas which resulted in not enough attention paid to any one specific idea.

Which is really sad because this movie has so much potential. All the actors were great except the girl IMO (very stiff) and to be totally honest Gackt over acted a little bit (I cringed when he did that weird pose while getting his cigarette lighted) but it's really only the one scene. Don't kill me fangirls =)

I believe this is Gackt's first acting/writing experience and it's a damn fine first effort. Maybe he just had too many ideas for the plot and wanted to incorperate it all into one movie. Gackt = everything on a grand scale. Mallepa, the whole world has changed, orphans, gangs, Vampires, love triangle, friendships/ending of friendships/family problems, daughter, being changed, dying, suicide etc.

In my mind if MoonChild had a sequel or was a trilogy even, it would have been much better! More time to flesh out everything.

For example,
Part One - Sho meeting Kei and Son and growing up together, vampire powers and love triangle is given more attention. Movie ends with the falling out with Son and Kei.

Part Two - More attention on Sho making it big with the gangs how, why etc. and detail into the Son rivalry, Sho getting married/having his daughter, finding Kei again and helping him regain his will to live. Final battle with Son and ends with Sho being made into a Vampire.

Part Three - *Kei & Sho rip it up as Vampires who protect the innocent and rule the world!!! J/K
Kei & Sho deal with hiding thier true nature from the daughter and Sho learns his Vampire nature, ends with the same MoonChild ending.

Alternately, Sho's daughter is slaughtered by rival Vampires who want to wipe them out and then Kei and Sho rip it up as Vampires who protect the innocent and rule the world =D

All in all, I think it was definitely worth watching at least once. There are so many epic ideas in Moonchild and of course if you are a fan or Gackt or Hyde you won't be disappointed.

reply

Agreed. Gackt never does anything by halves. And as you said, for a first effort, it's pretty damn good!

That's another reason I hated the movie.

This movie is exactly like Spider Man 3... only SM3 was better, even though that sucked. There's too many subplots, way too many characters, the movie doesn't know what genre it is or WANTS to be.

I will admit, I agree with you about the trilogy thing.

scrabble_babble: who cares? it's Gackt and Hyde. <-- HAH! Those two bands are JOKES. Listen these japanese bands: TMGE, Blankey Jet City, The Roosters <-- That is music, Gackt and Hyde are overrated *beep* for idiot-japanese-fans. I think Moon Child sucks too. Vampire movie starring *beep* bands, heh :D

Look if you guys don't like the movie so much don't post on here easy as that because you won't change anyone's mind that said they liked this movie, so your wasting your time and it's pretty sad. If you hate the movie so much e-mail the people that made it, and shut up.

Thank you =)

reply

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind or start anything here. I'm just stating my opinion, and if you don't agree, fine. You don't have to hate it. like I do.

Like scrabble_babble said ... this isn't meant to be blockbuster-ingly brilliant. It's fanservice for Gackt and Hyde fans.

reply

Yes, it was started out to be fanservice. But did any of you notice that Gackt and HYDE actually CAN act? I mean, they're brilliant. Especially HYDE during Sho's "death" scene. I nearly cried, and I don't understand Japanese.

As for the gun scenes...does every movie have to have these huge shoot outs? There is more to a movie. Aka, the plot, most important thing there is.

reply

Eh. As stated above this is more fanservice than anything else. Start a hate thread and you'll get bashed for it.

I must admit though, I cried when I thought Sho was dying. They're not going to win any acting awards, but they were good enough.

Dude, the acting was TERRIBLE. Gackt's acting was awful, he was tired throughout most of the movie, and he barely raised his voice, yet in the commentary, Zeze just goes on and on about how amazing he his. Hyde's acting was a bit too overdramatic, especially in Sho's death scene.

The big problem is that the movie is BORING at best- The characters are unlikeable and incomprehensible, the plot is too far-fetched and takes an hour to start up, body, the film was HEAVILY derivative (especially it's Total Recall ending), the special effects are horrible (just look at the gunshots) even for a low budget movie, and the film just jumps around like a 6 year old kid with ADD telling a story.

YOU GOTTA WATCH THEM BE QUICK OR BE DEAD

reply

Also much to the fact that people like it is SIMPLY because Gackt and Hyde are in it, and not due to whether or not it's good or bad.

reply

Personally, I didn't watch it for the gun fights. I watched it because I thought the plot sounded interesting (I was proven right), and to be totally honest, because Gackt and Hyde starred in it.

But I found myself really liking Taro Yamamoto's performance as Toshi, and Wang Lee Hom's performance as Son. Gackt and Hyde were good, but obviously they weren't going to be super amazing or anything. I didn't expect them to be, either. Still, I thought that they did very well during the emotional scenes. Toshi's death as well as Sho's (well, sort of), made me cry, and many of Kei and Sho's conversations sparked some emotions in me. The cinematics weren't very good, and there were some screwy bits, but overall, I loved it.
