New Ninja Vs. Old Ninja

All of the new voice dubbs suck in my opinion, but the one that sincerely hit home for me, was the new ninja's. What do you think of the new voice. Of course, being a huge fan of the original, I prefer the older voice. But this is more than just blind preferance based on the fear of change. The older voice, I feel, brought a lot more emotion to the characters words; his word usage, drought out syllables, and overall sound. I don't know...noone else seems to be talking about it that much.

I haven't heard the original recordings in years. I prefer the new Fox voice, sounds more sci-fiy which I think is a good thing.

First of all, I played TTS first, just to let everyone know. Later I played the PC port of MGS (which is practically identical to the PSX one).

I like Rob Paulsen as Gray Fox much more because one, as noted many times, Eagles doing the Cyborg is just too DARPA Chief-ish for me. And secondly, Paulsen's Ninja sounds much more metallic and mechanical: in short, very fitting for a cyborg.

Yeah, I agree. While Eagles is a very good VA (while not trying to sound racist) he simply sounds too african-american for a german/vietmese character.

Paulson did a wonderful job. His Ninja voice (through the mic inside the mask) and his real voice were very good cause you can here the difference of man and machine.

Also, when Snake and Fox first encounter eachother in TTS, and Fox says the classic "I'm like you, I have no name!" but then his suit spazes out and you hear him screaming in agony. You can really hear the tormented person screaming deep within the Ninja persona ("The One Inside Me") and makes you feel sorry for him.

I like much of the original better, but I think Paulson's version of Grey Fox was much more appropriate. Like a previous poster stated, Greg Eagles voice doesn't fit Grey Fox's heritage, and the fact that we heard the same voice almost unchanged a few (in-game) minutes before when meeting the DARPA Chief only made matters more confusing.

That said, Greg Eagles hit the nail on the head for the dramatic impact of Grey Fox later in the game: 'Tell her that I was the one who did it, I was the one who killed her parents', you can really tell that it tortured him.

Didn't George Byrd do the voice? Whoever it was I like the original fox's death scene alot better. the blue laser blasts, the music when he's talks about him killing Naiomi's parents, his emotion. So much better. In fact all the voice acting was better in the orginal, especially Raven, but also Ocelot was more calm and composed in the orginal, Mantis was more more funny. Meryl was better. David Hayter is always the same pratically, but I kind of prefer some of his line delivery in the original. same with James Flinders as Liquid. In Fact the original's acting sounded more movie like, while this one sounded more cheesy cartoon or stage play. every line seemed over analysed.

For example the exchange at the end.

"why did you disguise yourself as master"

"so that I could manipulate you more easly."

Liquid's reply was simple and short in the original

in twin snakes he explains it just like he explains his million other lines, bringing no diversity in his voice acting.

All and all since there seems to be more cut scenes than gameplay, I'd have to prefer the original. The cut scenes in this one were to matrix+cheesy. They seem to belong to the gamecube (though there's blood) it seems to be there to remind you that nintendo made the mario games.
