What's with the Greece Ticket? ***Spoiler***

At the end of the movie, Julian leave the ticket to Greece on Danny's car.
Was this JUST his ticket to Greece, or was it perhaps, his life's savings, as Julian intended to move to a little Greek island with Little Greeks?
Was this a ticket for Danny (and perhap, Bean) to join him?

On his commentray the director said it's a brochure to Greece. He said he wishes he made that more clear because some people thought Julian was leaving his ticket and not going to Greece. But he is and Julian's letting them know he is.

reply

i took it to mean that julian left them tickets to greece, so they could join him there soon.

reply

It was strange. The first thing I thought was he left him the ticket But as the post above you said, the director meant it so he could tell Danny where he was going.

reply

I thought the same as the other poster, that he left them tickets to join him?

reply

umm no... they weren't tickets... it looked like a POSTCARD actually if you look at it. It's just his way of letting Danny know he was there, and letting him know that (Greece) is where he is headed. Obviously. It didnt even look like a ticket. Seriously.

reply

Yeah indeed I thought both things that's why I looked here to find out :P

reply

yeah i thought that at first too

reply

Just affirming what picac says... the director pointedly states that it's merely a brochure to remind them to come visit him.

Honestly, it never occurred to me to think there were tickets inside, because that would really be an old-fashioned device at this point in time-- almost NOBODY buys and hangs on to paper tickets anymore. It's all electronic. Many airlines don't even LET you have a paper ticket anymore (before check-in at least).

The war is not meant to be won... it is meant to be continuous.

reply

Just confirming he was going to greece and getting out of the business. And a reminder to come visit.

reply

It seemed clear to me to be a brochure about Greece, and Julian's way of letting Danny know that's where he was headed.

I finally came to trust that there was no convoluted twist at the end (much to my relief). As such, I took "it" to mean (whether "it" was tickets for them or a travel brochure) that Julian wanted to reassure Danny and Bean that he was keeping his word to his new-found friends. Basically, he was letting them know he was retiring to Greece and possibly suggesting that they come by for a visit.

what kind of *beep* plane ticket has a picture of the country youre going to go to on it?

is it for the morons who are like, "gee i wonder if this ticket that tells me my flight which i booked last night on travelocity.com for greece, is REALLY going to go to greece- oh wait, nevermind, the picture here confirms it! oh boy!"

@zawrocks said: what kind of *beep* plane ticket has a picture of the country you're going to go to on it?

In decades past -- and I know this dates me -- sometimes you would get something like that if you got your tickets through a travel agency.

reply

SO did I, it had a picture on it. Airline tickets would just have a logo on it.

reply

I thought he left Danny and Bean extra tickets to join him in Greece. At least, that's what I took it as.

reply

i look at it to how it was intended. it is a brocure of greece, it was quite obviously his way of saying goodbye.

reply

i thought it was a brochure too.

It was pretty clearly a brochure the way it said in all caps across an image of a sky and ruins (I'm not sure if I remember ruins or not) GREECE.

I took it to mean that he would like them to come and visit/see him in Greece as they are the only friends he has. It is up to you if they do, but I think it is pretty clear they probably will.

reply

And of course Greece is such a small country he just has to arrive at the airport and ask the nearest person to direct him to his friend.

It ain't an EPCOT pavilion, its a big place. Even a small Greek island is a big place. Might as well have left him a brochure of Manhattan.

reply

Who's to say he didn't write down the name of the island he was retiring to inside the brochure?

reply

And who's to say there weren't two tickets concealed in the brochure?

Besides the director failing to make this scene clear enough, as he stated himself, I tend to use my imagination with movies. I know, naughty me. Could this be the first film in the history of cinema to be left open ended, albeit it unintentionally, even though it's clearly not left open ended but just lack of detail on the directors part? Quick, call the Plot Police! This is an outrage! Wait, cancel that. I just spoke to Captain Logic and he told me I have a mind of my own.

It was just a brochure of Greece.
It was a brochure of Greece with tickets inside.
It was a fancy airline ticket, one that even prints pictures of it's destination on them.
It was a dinner for two at a local Greek restaurant.
It was intentionally vague so you would lose sleep at night because the director's a sadist.
OR, it means whatever the hell you want it to mean.

Ugh. Next people are going to try convincing me Darth Vader faked his own death. To which I'll point out that Vader was clearly a sexually frustrated nun in disguise and found her release through magic mushrooms.

Julian had already told Danny he was planning to go to Greece after the last job. So I didn't think he left it to tell Danny where he was going.

My take on it was that it was some type of brochure/informational thing. He left it as he was watching Danny and Bean have a moment at their son's grave. My take on it was as if Julian was saying "here's something for the two of you. you deserve some fun, a get-away...think about it."

That was sorta the message I got from the brochure on the car.

I thought it was his ticket he was giving up for them. Don't know, but I liked the ending. For a while when Julian first went to their house, I thought the story would turn ugly and Bean would fall for him. She sure acted interested. I thought they might kill Danny and run off together. I was expecting a twist at the end, but Julian turned out to be a softer hearted guy than I thought he was. The ticket ending was a nice touch.
