Plot Hole - The Heart of Darkness - SPOILERS

When I play a game like this, I am very attentive to the storyline, and through the series, I came across a plot hole.
It was discovered in Defiance that Kain possessed the Heart of Darkness, which originally belonged to Janos Audron, as it was the only missing piece of him which, upon being reunited with his body, would resurrect him. Basically, for Janos to live, he must have Kain's heart. My question is, where was Kain's "heart" in Blood Omen 2? If it was in Janos at the time, then how did it end up in Kain?
I'll admit I haven't had the privilege of playing Blood Omen 1 or Soul Reaver 2, so if the answer to my questions lies in either of those stories, please let me know.

reply

Raziel and Kain came from the future. Raziel ripped out Kain's heart, placed it in Janos. So, the heart Kain has in BO2 is the original one, and the one Janos has is from the future Kain.

You know what, I'm even more confused now.

I've been looking over the legacy of kain story for a while trying to figure that very question out...thats the only way i can figure it...either that or, when the hylden general took Janos' body for his own, he may have used a new heart to allow janos to function properly, then perhaps sumthin happened which may be covered later on.

(the guaranteed way to get a headache, try and make a legacy of kain timeline.

It's 2 in the morning, so I'll try and make this brief.

- Kain is killed and the Heart of Darkness is used to turn him into a vampire
- The events of Blood Omen happen
- The events of Soul Reaver happen
- The events of Soul Reaver 2 happen, the timeline begins to shift, Kain gains memories of the events of Blood Omen 2
- The events of Defiance happen, Kain and Raziel travel back to the era of Blood Omen 1, Raziel takes the Heart of Darkness from Kain and places it in Janos. The Hylden lord possesses Janos. Because we are now in the past, the events of Blood Omen 2 happen

I hope that clears things up.

It all makes sense, the only real plothole in the Legacy of Kain series is Vorador being alive in Blood Omen 2. And even if that plothole was someday explained, I would continue to ignore Blood Omen 2 because it just sucks so much.

reply

1. Blood Omen 2 does not suck....it introduces us to the hylden as a real and physical threat.

2. I reckon that Vorador may have had some human followers, who perhaps used a human head, placed it next to the stump of voradors neck, and his healing abilities would have done the rest....Creeper style.

reply

Nah, Blood Omen 2 still sucks.

reply

How can it suck...sure its not the best game (in comparison to the others...defiance...blood omen etc) but still..it is a good game...it was the first legacy of kain game that I, two of my friends, and my girlfriend played...they have all since become hooked on legacy of kain. without having played the others yet. becuase they have not seen the others, they are not comparing them...and thus, think that Blood Omen 2 is excellent. you have to admit that as a game in its own right it is good.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I'd find it a mediocre action adventure game with a bland plot. Playing Blood Omen 2 would definitely not hook me on the rest of the series.

reply

Speak for yourself...it hooked me, and several of my friends.

If you compare blood omen 2 to the rest of the games in the series... then yes... it sux... BAD

however, if you compare it with ALL videogames out there, then its pretty playable and can be quite fun... could be a ton better though.

You're just jealous because the voices talk to me

I know several LoK fans will disagree, but my least fave game out of all of the series is actually soul reaver. I hate Raziel's puzzles.

Dude, Raziel ROCKS! He's so awsome. Don't get me wrong, Kain is amazing. But, the whole story around Raziel... his coming and going... I love it. Soul Reaver 1 was the game that hooked me on this series. Plenty of action in the game and plenty of puzzles.

I didnt say Raziel was the problem, i just dont like Soul Reaver's style of play...his story is fantastic though...The story of LoK has always been the backbone of the series.

True that... I can respect that. To be honest, I love Soul Reaver's style of gameplay. I'm not too fond of the gameplay of Blood Omen. But, either way, it's a great series. Hope they continue on with it.

Blood Omen was quite difficult, in terms of the combat, bt it's puzzles were simplistic. Blood Omen 2 had simple puzzles as well, but it made a good diference from the combat...Soul Reaver 1/2 and Defiance managed to strike the balance well between puzzles and combat, but i was never a big fan of Raziel's puzzle style, but he does rock...i loved the sound his reaver made wen it was activated in soul reaver 2 (why did they chang it for defiance???????)

There were many changes in Defiance that I did not like. Don't get me wrong, it's still an awsome game. But, I'm a picky person when it comes to sequals. Make it the same! For example, if you play Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and then Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, if you play a song witht the ocarina, the screen is slightly different when it says "You played the song of ____". See, I'm just picky about stuff like that.
