Appearantly you don't know good animation when you see it. *sigh*

I hope you find a way of getting hold of his films, because Mr Plympton is quite possably the best thing to happen to animation since Snow White.

In my opinion, there are five names in animation, 'Pixar' (Nemo, Ice Age, Toy Story and an ever growing list of amazing titles), 'Disney' (There list is way to big!), 'Nick Park' (Wallace & Gromit), Ralph Bakshi ('The Lord of the Rings' (If you like Animation and you havn't seen this, get it, it's totaly awsome!), 'Wizards', 'Fritz the Cat', 'Fire & Ice' & 'Cool World') and of course 'Mr Bill Plympton' (A semingly unlimited supply of fantastic shorts).
(The above list of studios and people is in no paticular order, other than how they came to mind).

All of the people whom you list are either American or English, but... meh. You need to get out more. :P

You are right, of course, I should get out more !)

I would hate for people to even begin to think, that only America & the UK, has given us, the only animators worthy of note. There are, indeed MANY other great animators, from ALL over the world!

I didn't even mention the Japanese input into the genre, as well as the many shorts that have come out of, what was in my school days, known as Russia.

I feel I must also mention, a sudden sway towards internet animation (Java, Flash Etc...), which puts the genre, within the reach of an ever increasing number of people, worldwide!

The fact remains, unfortunatly, that many people, still see animation as being only for children. It is through the works of Pixar, Disney & Mr Plympton etc, that allows the genre a wider public. Once someone is hooked on animation, of course, the whole world is there oyster, to be taken with much lemon juice.

You can buy Plympton DVDs from his web-site at www.plymptoons.com -

Some of the DVDs there may not be viewable in Europe, but some of them, like "Bill's Dirty Shorts" should be.

Plympton also has a newsletter there, you can sign up and find out when and where his films will be playing at film festivals around the world. He travels to a lot of festivals, and usually sells his DVDs in person.
