Just saw this - 'Doc Martin: The Movie' - on PBS this evening. It clearly is Doc Martin but before Doc Martin. I think I like this characterization of Doc Martin more than the one that developed in the series - though that characterization, more quirky, is still interesting. However, this Doc Martin is more normal - more human. It's interesting the way the concept got altered for the series.

I think they ruined his character and a lot of the show taking him from the sweet, troubles, sometimes silly but never harsh Doc Martin in the first movie of 2001 to how they changed him into a rude man who no one could've really fallen in love with much less be his patient! I love these two Doc Martin "mystery" movies but can only watch the series because the village characters are so interesting. I feel they truly mucked the show up by changing him. Be sure you watch the first movie if you liked this one. It's even better in my opinion!!
