So is this movie worth seeing or what?

The trailer looks pretty but is it actually about anything?

It's not 'about' anything in the way you would expect a drama to be. It's more of a 'concept' film. It's just beautiful and fantastic on the big screen/sound system. I think the point of it is that not much of the ocean has been or could be explored or visited and so it shows you what you couldn't otherwise see. I just sat back and enjoyed it. No stress. Really remarkable film. I thought it was worth seeing.

They went crazy for it in Japan. Which I thought was ironic as the japanese govt is pushing to resume whaling of humpbacks in Antarctica.

It look pretty good, but its not really a movie, since it has no story line. Shouldn't it be on the discovery or national geography channel?

This movie is more dramatic and real than any movie put out by Hollywood in the last several years. While the story is nothing new, if you are not a documentary fanatic then you will be amazed by the clips. Seeing it on the big screen adds an element that is missing when you watch Discovery or the National Geographic Channel. I was awestruck by the scene in which a whale plays with a sea lion the same way a cat plays with a mouse before eating it. Go see it!!!

Wait this may be a stupid question, but is this stuff real or fake? I saw the trailer and was like, "This can't be real!" But then my stepfather told me that there are fish with multicolored lights down there. So I just wanna know.

reply

Go see it and find out! It's all real. You can't make that stuff up!!!! It's filmed by the BBC Natural History Unit, which David Attenborough is part of.

too bad its footage and music is ripped off Blue Planet Series .....................................................................................................BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If youve seen Blue Planet you will be heart broken.

reply

Do you mean it has no organising principle? It does. It's based on ocean habitats. The variation in the habitats is caused by ocean currents (hot or cold) and sunlight. So you'll see they visit coasts, deep sea, open ocean, cold waters, tropical waters etc. They don't really spell that out really clearly though. I think they should have. I watched all of Blue Planet, so I can see how this all fits together with it.

I would suggest going to a matinee show. Its pretty good but not as good as I was expecting it to be

It is just an amazing and relaxing documentary about the sea and its inhabitants. It is very breathtaking at times and is astonishing to watch.

honestly my only complaint about it is the music made me sleepy (which, orchestral type music in that tone always does), overall it was a decent watch, not as informative as I'd have liked but beautiful nonetheless.

My only complaint is you don't learn that much. Incredible visuals, but too little narration for my liking.

reply

the few narration is the thing I liked most 'bout this documentation.
You can just enjoy the visuals, which makes you feel more like you're really swimming with the fishes, whales etc.

i think this movie is amazing. there's not much narating and you don't learn from this movie but that doesn't make this movie bad. this is the most beautiful movie i had ever seen (yes, i liked this film even more than march of the penguins). every shot is so beautiful that you wonder how they filmed some of the stuff. the camera goes kilometers down the sea surface where there is no light. i watched this film with my mouth open. you can see why this movie is called deep blue, especially at the end. the sea has such a deap blue colour. the music is brilliant too. i would highly recommend this. just don't expect to learn anything. and for those who say that this film disapointed them because of the lack of naration, you should see microcosmos. they say 3 sentences in the entire movie. i'm a teenage girl and loved this film. i gave it a ten. i can't understand how the average rating females under 18 gave is 5. how can you not like this film? i'm a harry potter fan and i hate michael gambon but i still liked this movie. perhaps he's just bad playing dumbledore in HP.
