This and the Blue Planet Series

I forgot where I read this but I remember reading that scenes from the Blue Planet series were edited into Deep Blue and my questions are,

Is it a significant amount that was copied?
And even if it wasn't, do they basically show the same sort of thing?

Because I ordered the Blue Planet series from Amazon.com and I'm wondering if getting this movie when it comes out on DVD will be worth it or not.

Thanks in advance : )

i noticed a few shots were borrowed

(SPOILER)

the death of the baby whale, the emperor penguins, the crazy things from the bottom of the ocean, the dolphins swimming threw that fish vortex, etc

i kept wondering if it was the same people who made blue planet and wanted to trim it down into a theatrical release length.

of course there are unique scenes, but the blue planet series is MUCH more educational. if you have the series there is no need to even watch this

As far as I can make out from the official website, Deep Blue is simply the Blue Planet edited down into feature film length; but it says during editing they looked at unused footage as well, so there is presumably some stuff in there that you won't have seen.

I watched this intire thing and Its just ripped footage from Blue Planet thats it. If you have Blue planet you will most likely kill yourself after seeing this lameness. I feel ripped of just for renting this because I have the entire Blue Planet Boxset.

I have 'The Blue Planet' on DVD and went to see 'Deep Blue' at the cinema. I walked out after about an hour as the movie was just 'The Blue Planet' rehashed but without any decent commentary. If you have (or are getting) 'The Blue Planet' then don't bother with 'Deep Blue'.

I've got both this and Blue Planet. The reason this exists is really simple. Deep Blue was produced for the IMAX Cinemas, and then released as a DVD. It incorporates much of the same footage, as has already been mentioned here. The music, I beleive is different as well as having Michael Gambon narrate in place of David Attenborough.

It is really cool programme, and you can see lots of wide shots that were put in purely for IMAX, but they still make you gasp, especially the wife helicopter view of the ocean.

If you want a quick few hours, watch this. If you want a closer look and more in depth (pun intended) look at the oceans, then go for Blue Planet.

Hi,

Deep Blue wasn't produced for IMAX. It was produced for the big screen and that's all. I've never seen it in IMAX.

Well, I haven't seen Blue Planet. This is the first time I've seen any of this footage. For me, I'm absolutely mesmerized by the photography. I might have to check out Blue Planet now. Other than my little salt aquarium at home, I'll probably never get under the ocean to see anything close to the majesty of the sea. I can understand being upset if I already had most of the footage, but since I don't, I'll be impressed with what is in the DVD for now. :)
