No. It was made for HBO.

I gotta read "My Pet Goat". Apparently, you just can't put it down.

The reason why many people probably didn't hear of it is because HBO runs the WORST trailors. They have the best films and programs, but the promotion to get the show off of the ground seems to be aimed at 90 year old lesbian women, as opposed to a more 20-30 something demograph.

Even when the Sopranos first started airing trailors in the fall of 1998, they made it seem like a cheesy, wannabe "Goodfellas", comical spoof. Of course, it turned out to be one of the best shows ever to hit television. But you would never know by the trailors leading up to it.

Same thing happened with "Everyday People". The trailor doesn't give you any clue about how interesting the movie is. You don't even know it's about a jewish bar owner, who's bar is a primarily black bar, and he's being pushed out by greedy investors gobbling up the entire district. All I see in the trailor is some cheesy slow song and people walking around a resturaunt in slow motion as if the movie is about watching f**king paint dry!

HBO is a brilliant, entertaining network. Every program and film produced by HBO is interesting at the very least, and usually memorable, as "Everyday People" is. But the one area HBO can work on is the promotional dept. Someone has to liven their film trailors a bit.

You have a good point there. But I think the reason is becasue it's a pay channel so they don't have to have flashy promos to get you to watch. Just the fact that you're paying for the channel guarantees that you'll be watching. I ususally don't watch HBO programs until they get critical acclaim. I have no idea what Deadwood is actually about for example. But I'll end up watching it because they rerun constantly and I'm paying for it. So HBO doesn't feel the pressure like other cable networks.

The movie was released to a limited audience...I know it played at BAM in NYC(Brooklyn Academy of Music) which shows generally art house flicks. It also played at a few venues in Manhattan as well. Most of Jim McKay's flicks are sold through word of mouth, not through a large traditional theatrical release movie trailer scheme.
