Would you ever pose nude?

Theoretical question for anyone who saw this.

If the situation presented itself would you ever pose nude? Say you saw an ad on a bulletin board somewhere? Or a friend asked you? Or you were at the local art center and you overheard an instructor saying they can't find a model?

If the opportunity was there would you jump at it? Would you run away? Would you say yes in some circumstances but not others? Is is something you thought about but would need a nudge to do it?

Just curious what responses would be.

I could never. The thought of all the people looking at me is mortifying. I hate beinging looked at so the idea is scary. I couldn't even if it was a really really close friend.

I was drawing often and consistently live models since I was 14, so by the time I graduated from art college, it was not a big deal to me to do that for part time work. There is a different attitude from someone who is really trying to draw the figure...attractive or unattractive, or the sexuality goes way in the back burner if the student/artist is focused on what they are doing, and the model is focused on projecting a specific mood of the pose. Even if the drawing is sensual, that filters in through the hard work of getting the drawing/painting of the figure down.

If I was at the beach, I'd feel just as self conscious as any average female in a bikini...but in the classroom it just felt different. I was attractive enough, but no centerfold...but the flaws did not seem to matter there. If you are not looking at people in a primarily sexual way, I think most people look better and more dignified nude than awkwardly bound in ill fitting skimpy clothes.

i would definitely pose as a male nude model.

but for their own safety, i would ask everyone to stand at least 20 feet away from me.

I think they will stick to Ezra Buzzington! LOL! I think every guy admires the nerve it takes for a man to do frontal. Word is Daniel Craig is going to go frontal for Bond. Brave men, Ezra Buzzington and Daniel Craig!

I just thought of this story that kind of fits this thread. Once in college my roommate posed for me because he wanted me to doing a drawing of him in the nude to give to his g/f for their anniversary or something. He wasn't actually nude he kept his boxers on but then he had me draw him nude in the picture which I felt was kind of more awkward then if he had just been nude. anyway that was an interesting experience for sure.

Its a lot easier posing in an art class than a lot of other situations. I used to see sitcoms when I was younger where someone wound up posing nude or was in a class and a friend posed, etc. I thought it would be fun but never had the guts when I was in college, I signed up at a local art school and didn't follow up and they called me when they had a last minute cancellation so I went and it was a great experience. Its totally non-sexual, to the artists you might as well be a bowl of fruit. But after you have been nude un front of a group of people you can't be shy speaking in public ever again. I wound up posing often during grad school. I haven't done it often but I totally would if I had the chance.

Posing for art classes in my area usually garners $20 an hour, so as a college student, I must say not only would I, but I have taken days off from my "real job" to do it before.

reply

$20 an hour? Where the heck do you go to school? It was $15 an hour at NYU when I was there.

reply

It was a measly $10/hr a few years ago in my city. I missed out on the price hike...I actually stopped because it was not worth my while to commute to the various jobs anymore...I could just ask for extra hours at my job and be better off.

reply

apparently down here in the south, it's harder to find people willing to pose *shrugs* I've never understood why the pay was so high in the area.

reply

Yeah not a problem in NYC. Some studios even have tryouts.

reply

Damn....$15-$20 per hour?

I would want at least $500 a session

reply

although the pay sounds nice, I could never let anyone see my unmentionables. Plus, I'd probably have a hard time keeping a straight face (I day dream and randomly think about anything, movies, shows, whatever). So I'd probably be holding a pose, then suddenly start laughing. Students would probably just be like "WTF!!"

i want to be a pornstar

Yeah, totally. Why not?

Yeah, if there was decent money in it. It isn't like it would be a hard job.

Its not as easy as it looks. Assume you have absolutely to nervousness about taking your clothes off, still having to come up with poses that will be challenging for the artists to draw is hard especially if you have 10 one minute poses, then not moving at all when you have a long pose is not as easy as it looks either.

reply

what if you got a massive boner, and you were in a really erect pose, do they give you a few minutes to cool off?

reply

Dude I had a friend who smoked a ton of pot to calm his nerves before posing and ended up getting a hard-on for the cute art chicks sketching him so he tucked his dick in between his thighs. It was hilarious!

reply

i would pose but i am afraid for artists sake they wouldnt have enough space and drawing material to fit and draw my massive shlong

Kind of sorry the last 2 posts are leading this thread into massive-throbbing-land, but yes, I posed nude for a year.

I'd always wondered if I'd have the guts and wanted to do it at least once. I went freelance and suddenly realized that now I had a good excuse for trying it out - $$$!

It's really very easy to get hired. One art school booked me on the spot. The other wanted some references - I guess to make sure I wasn't wacky. Neither wanted to see me. They just want fresh bodies for the students to practice with.

It's actually pretty much the same as if you belong to a gym where you have to get naked in front of people - i.e. if you have to enter or exit the shower without a little space to change in. The idea freaks you but once you do it you're fine. The art class is like you're changing but everyone else happens to be dressed, and oh yeah - happens to include members of the opposite sex.

I think they lecture students about appropriate behavior beforehand. They're NEVER supposed to touch the model. They're not supposed to engage in personal conversations or ask your name.

Generally the classes were about 3 hours. You pose for about 45 min at a time with 10 or 15 min breaks in between. If you can sit it's not too bad, but usually you're standing. You quickly learn that if you have more weight on one foot than the other, or if your hand is anywhere other than at your side, or if your head or frame is even slightly turned - you will be in agony. The discomfort starts after about 10 min and builds to full burn by the 30 min mark. The less time you have to pose, the easier it is to do something more dynamic and interesting for the students.

I ended up working almost every day - if I had 3 jobs in a day I'd be spending more time naked than clothed.

I'd never think being naked in front of a bunch of strangers would be crashingly boring but it is. If I was sitting or lying down I'd find myself nodding off which totally wrecks the pose. And because you're posing, you can't pinch yourself or tap your leg or move around a little to wake yourself up. Misery.

Schools apparently prefer female models. Supposedly both male and female students are more comfortable staring at a woman. And the 2 previous posters gave us another reason - no chance of that big (or little) embarrassing scene.

I encountered 2 weirdos. I was posing on a low platform for one class (making sure I didn't give anyone a vaj shot while I'm posing or moving - not easy) when I noticed one student sniffing/inhaling deeply whenever I was near. What do you say? "Quit smelling me!" "Do you have a coke problem?"

The other was in a sculpting class. Students were allowed to stand near me if they needed to guesstimate my proportions. One elderly man would repeatedly stand close and then lean in. I leaned back to keep a couple of inches distance. The instructors are supposed to keep stuff like that from happening but this guy wasn't doing his job. I finally told him the old geezer had come too close too many times and he had to stop.

Yeah, the money's OK for doing literally nothing but the boredom was truly exhausting. And I never got to keep any of the pictures. If I was amassing a gallery of flattering nudes I'd still be at it.

Try it - you might like it!

reply

It is funny how quickly it gets boring. The first couple of times you are either nervous or feeling a rush. By time 3 its just work. I did it for about a year and a half while in grad school. In the past 7 years I have done it probably twice. Once was as a favor to a friend once just for old times sake. It was fun and after being in front of a group of 20 people naked you don't have as much of an issue giving a speech, etc.
