Am I the only one who likes the new agents?

Does anyone else like the new agents. I felt they were both a better fit than Bishop.

reply

They need to tone down the Gibbs/Torres special connection and Torres Mary Sue-ness (right now they are in danger of making him Ziva part 2 which will make me loathe him as much as I did her) but he is a decent addition. As I said in another thread the best thing about them is that McGee is getting much less screen time which saves me from watching SMM's blandness kill the energy of almost any scene he is in.

As for Quinn I like her and Bishop's chemistry. I was concerned at first they were going to pit the two women on the team against each other but that scene where they were talking in the squad room was really good/

reply

I agree they need to tone the male version of Super Mossad Ninja Barbie part of Torres a bit. He should be able to kick butt, but what I saw tonight was a little over the top. I hope to see him maybe get his butt kicked once or twice to make him more human. But otherwise I think he's okay.

Quinn might turn out okay too. Just as long as they don't turn her into a female Gibbs.

Order without liberty and liberty without order are equally destructive.

reply

I like the new guy, didn't think I would, but he's just as bad ass as Ziva, (who I loved) I'm happy again,
Gibbs had nobody, Bishop who couldn't fight her way out of a paper bag and Timmy who couldn't fight his way out of the wind, he's finally got some power in his team. 

Do they still call it an elevator when it goes down?

reply

Torres is a subtle slam on DiNozzo. I didn't think Gibbs was as much "connected" to him as he wanted somebody that was the anti-thesis of DiNozzo. Unfunny, utterly serious and a "real" fighter.

reply

I don't know what it is about me, but when a show is about hunting killers and terrorists, agents like Bishop and Timmy just don't cut it.

Do they still call it an elevator when it goes down?

reply

That's a shame. The real shame though is that Tony 1.0 (seasons 1-6) was strong, confident, and could fight perfectly well--he was a "real" fighter. It was in season 8 (I guess really later in season 7 also) when GG and company emasculated him in the service of making Ziva the be-all and end-all of super agents. From season 8 and on, only Ziva (through season 10, obviously) and Gibbs could be the heroes, the strong ones, the bestest of the best agents.

reply

Gibbs had someone strong like that in seasons 1-7 in the original Tony. Sadly, the PTB decided to take his strengths and skills away and leave only a shadow of the character he had been.

reply

While Ziva was skilled and hand to hand combat she had the emotional fortitude of a tween girl just dumped at her first homecoming dance. She would crumble into a mess of bad mistakes the second things got tough and she was way too easily manipulated by most of the people in her life, especially the men. That is why I never saw her as "bad-ass." It takes a lot more than being able to beat someone up to be bad-ass.

Also, while Bishop isn't obviously as skilled at combat as Ziva she has proven she can hold her own. She has also proven that she doesn't crumble into a mess of horrible mistakes that threaten to bring down the team the moment things get tough. In my mind that makes her more bad-ass than Ziva could have ever hoped to be.

Finally, while I think SM brings down the energy of any scene he is in I actually have no issue with McGee's skills. NCIS is an agency that investigates naval crimes. Sure that would include some international terrorism investigations but it was only after Ziva was added that they show became more and more focused on that all to service her character whose Mossad/boyfriend/daddy issues ending up eating the show and turning Tony into either her purseholder and/or comic relief for when the show needed levity to counterbalance the trials and tribulations of Ziva

I like them now. But waiting for them to 'grow'.

reply

I like them. They just aren't tony and Ziva

reply

Gibbs/Torres special connection - check
Torres being super agent - check

Still it is early so they have time to not be so heavy handed in making him a Mary Sue like they did with Ziva. If they double down on it like they did with her he will end up as loathesome as she eventually became

reply

Yes, I like them both so far, but agree I'm waiting to see how they grow as the season goes. Also agree they need to tone down Torres a little.

reply

I like them both better than Bishop who I still cant stand. The art directors only now just barely toned down her coal black eyebrows. I find myself mesmerized by the little black caterpillars so that I actually miss dialog!

As far as Quinn, I like her mischievousness and Alpha Female thing. She DOMINATED Bishop right from the start. I loved that! LOL. But her acting is horrible. I expect that to improve as she settles into the character. Over all a B-.

Her hair looks like cheap hooker did her highlights. That's gotta get fixed. Grade D for hair coloring. A little too poofy and lush for an action field agent. None of the other females had horse's manes like that. Its attractive, but highly distracting to the point of extreme annoyance. Also, the actress is too obviously pleased with her thick locks. That is also pretty annoying. I HOPE these things get fixed and she starts being more natural and less affected. The writers are giving her good stuff to work with. It is up to her to deliver better.

Do I think Espisito has potential? Yes, tons of it. But "show me"!

As far as Mr Anger Management...I dont like "angry" characters at all. Too one dimensional. Too negative. Grade C-. Potential? IDK yet. Maybe. I dont HATE him...yet.

One saving grace is he is not Black. Sorry, I need ONE show in my life where "diversity" is not shoved down my throat like bad tasting medicine. The show runners know their older demographic for this show and compromised with a Latino.

The other, younger, "hipper" NCIS LA and N.O. positively OOZE diversity. I dont like or watch those shows. Thanks, but no thanks.I like the original the best by FAR!

But I would have liked to have seen an Asian instead, like a second generation Vietnamese with a family history that goes back to the War in Vietnam. The show runners missed the boat here...no pun intended. I REALLY WANT an Vietnamese American, actually. I admire them as immigrants more than I can say. They are SO under represented it is a crime. I would have liked him to be a devout Buddhist too. Even though I am a devout Christian. I really appreciate Buddhism and think THAT is highly under represented in Hollywood. Just my opinion on missed opportunities.

I am not anti diversity. Just BETTER diversity than what Hollywood shoves down our throats.

I wish that they would have made Torres at least a Cuban American with family history going back to pre Castro. That would be timely and bold. But it would not be "safe". So, I am pretty luke-warm with the Torres character. So far. BO-RING!

If my post offended anybody, well I am sorry for that. Was never my intention. When you get to travel and live all over the world for 59 years like I have, then maybe you can judge better.

reply

And I too have traveled and lived abroad so I can call you out according to your criteria (although I think anyone should be able to call you out for what you said because what you said was bigoted).

When you say things like so glad he wasn't black as if someone being black is something negative I will call you for that.

By the way I guess you will be offended starting in episode 5 because they are bringing back Clayton Reeves, the black M1-6 agent from last year, as a regular.

Also you shouldn't speak for all older people because plenty of them aren't bigoted like you and wouldn't be offended by a black character on the show.

reply

Bdave said... One saving grace is he is not Black. Sorry, I need ONE show in my life where "diversity" is not shoved down my throat like bad tasting medicine. The show runners know their older demographic for this show and compromised with a Latino.

I think by this time we all realize that all shows have a quota they must adhere to...

reply

Because we live in a diverse world and it makes sense that TV shows reflect that. To that end they are more often casting the best actor or actress for the part regardless of race or ethnicity

This is especially true of the military which is more diverse than the population as whole.

reply

No they don't always hire the best actor for the job.... I still say they must hire who they are told to hire... The Suits and the Networks demand it.

reply

Her hair looks like cheap hooker did her highlights.

Being that she never lightened her Brooklyn accent after all those years away, I thought the horrible Brooklyn Italian Hooker Hair was perfect for the character.
I reserve judgement on both characters, Hispanic Superman and Brooklyn Barbie. I was kinda pulling for the black English guy to stick around.

Wow! 

Please do not presume to speak for the older demographic, not all of us are... jerks.

I, for one, enjoy seeing a strong, diverse cast of characters.

As for the 2 new characters, I'll give them a few episodes to settle in.
So far, I like Quinn and am on the fence about Torres (need to dial him back).

100% in agreement with SunshineBoozer.

Don't speak for this old guy. I can be cantankerous enough for myself. Don't need any help. There are several reasons why I don't get into NCIS LA or NCIS NO, but diversity is not one of them.

Quinn is OK so far, and I am liking Torres. Loved his DiNozzo homage last night.

"I'm not really into movies."

Cheers!

I agree. I thought her acting was bad especially in the beginning when she was talking to Gibbs. It sounded so unnatural and rehearsed. She did improve as the episode progressed.

😖There's nothing to worry. You're going to be just fine. I'll take care of you. I'm your #1 fan.😱

reply

I absolutely hate both of them they're horrible fit for the team. I decided to watch this show first tonight because I have loved this show for 13 years but after seeing the new team. I will be switching my watching order to Tony new show NCIS New Orleans and then the show if I have time. They really screwed the pooch in casting this time.

reply

They absolutely won me over with the first episode. I was one of those "No Tony No Way" fans but am singing a different tune after just one episode. I had no idea Jennifer Esposito was a new agent until I watched the opening credits. I loved her on Blue Bloods. She's perfect for the team.

I accept your surrender.

reply

She is also listed ahead of veteran cast members in the credits.

reply

She is only listed ahead of Emily Wickersham and Brian Dietzen. David and Rocky get the honored spots in the credits.

well, wouldn't that count as listed ahead of veteran cast members in the credits?
she's certainly not going to be listed ahead of MH

Do they still call it an elevator when it goes down?

reply

I am very pleased so far, I think the two new characters are a breath of fresh air. Last season I started to get a bit bored with the show and honestly, there were some Tuesday nights where I dident really want to watch. I liked Jennifer Esposito on Blue Bloods and I think she is a welcome addition to NCIS. Her and Valderrama have removed the 'staleness' that has been setting in over the past few seasons. My interest in NCIS has been renewed!

reply

I totally agree with everything you said. Glad to see Jennifer Esposito back on TV and especially on NCIS--one of my favorite shows--one of my favorite actresses. I didn't expect much from Valderrama; however, he has been a pleasant surprise.

reply

Credits are worked out by agents and producers, not by how big their role is or how long they've been with a show. Pauley is now second billed over Brian who actually gets more screen time, and Pauly's agent moved her up in the credits fast over the first couple of seasons. Sean's billing, however, remained and remains further down in the credits. But billing in the credits doesn't have to do with their salaries, so the assumption would be Sean's salary is equal to or more than Pauley's.

reply

But while not a one to one correlation with salaries, placement in the credits is a strong indicator of salaries. For example MW was second in the credits as soon as Sasha left and he was always second in salary and CdP eventually moved to third in the credits and third in salary. (Probably because they were considered the first tier supporting players although from the writing for Tony in his last 2 seasons you couldn't tell that)

As for SM his salary is equal to or a little less than PP's. They have always been pretty much on par. As has David McCallum

I would also imagine that even though WV and JE are after SM in the credits at least one of them is making more at least the same amount in salary (probably WV). Why? Because they are more of a name than either SM and PP. I would also imagine if either character really takes off they will jump in the credits next year (as did CdP by season 4 or 5) and be earning more.

reply

It's good to chat with someone with knowledge of The Industry. All your points are valid. It's interesting that the two with the 'special' credit, DM and RC make the same amount per episode and the least amount of all the other cast members.

reply

I totaly agree! And even better after episode 2.

It's not lupus!

reply

So far mixed feelings.

I have a love her/hate her relationship with Jennifer Esposito. She can be really annoying sometimes. But here, so far so good. I like her chemistry with the team. My only issue is she kinda has the same issue as Tony. She's far too advanced/experienced of an agent to still be a team subordinate. For me, the fit will depend on how plausible of a story they can come up with for her other than "you need a team."

As for Wilmer Valderrama, I just have a hate/hate relationship. I don't get the appeal and I don't think he can act. Tonight's episode didn't prove any differently. That said, I get that he's the new muscle and eye candy. In that respect I guess I'm okay with the character. But they need to tone him down and stick him in the back until they need someone shot or beaten up. He doesn't have the chops to be super angry, super sociopath, super badass agent.

Anyway, regardless, the two of them seemed to blend in more easily than Bishop.

Now we're just waiting for Clayton in Episode 5. Maybe he's supposed to be super badass ex-spy super agent.

I don't trust people who don't like pets and I don't trust people who pets don't like.

reply

So far mixed feelings.

Exactly. At least I dont have over whelming negative feelings like I did about Bishop. I still hate her as a character.

I hope. I really hope Esposito works out because we are basically stuck with her. I am going to be optimistic. I see tons of potential in the character. It is really up to her as an actress to "bring it". I am going to remain as open minded as I can.

Who knows about Wilmer? I think his debut was a disaster. But the writers may be able to save him. They did certainly set him up for failure in the premiere.

Is he a poor actor? I can hardly tell. The writers gave him such horrible scenes.
We are stuck with him, so I can only hope for the best. ANY thing that takes away from Bishop's screen time is a good thing. So, there is that.

The "hooker highlights" in Esposito's hair have got to go. How could the art director allow that? I really don't dwell on hair color and style until it becomes obviously distracting. She has that going on in spades. Gotta get fixed. Fast!

We all miss Tony and Ziva...and Jenny too. I am watching episodes from the golden years of NCIS. The show survives but will never be the same. At least all the other characters delivered as expected. Zero complaints on that front.
NCIS is like a sacred thing to me. Not to be toyed of fiddled with more than necessary!

I am pretty sure most fans feel this way. Want younger and "hipper", go watch NCIS LA. I cant watch it. I dont know why. I just cant. I tried many, many times. But no.

NCIS NO is still a puzzle for me. I want to like it. But I really dont.

reply

I'm going to give it time, it was pretty good, (and a lot less Bishop time)
tried NCIS-LA really liked it at first with the woman that investigated Gibbs shooting of the guy that killed his family, can't think of her name, then it went downhill from there, casting was terrible, I like the new girl in NOLA, DO NOT LIKR THE LITTLE BIG MOUTH, she irritates me, but the new NCIS should work out well. they still have the premise and the star,

Do they still call it an elevator when it goes down?

reply

Right now I like them. I hope they dont overdo them.

I thought they did OK. It is just one episode, but I'm curious to see how they grow into their roles. The screentime wasn't hogged by the new agents. Quinn seems to have some chemistry with Bishop. And Torres can only get better.
