the "Brothers Bishop" a.k.a. "OKie Dopie"

in what universe are THREE morons visiting from OKlahoma allowed to wander around a Federal building unescorted? 

and just how are said THREE morons allowed to hang out near a vending machine or ride up & down an elevator just to hassle federal agents about who their "little sister" is dating?

if this was meant to be funny, it sure as hell missed the mark with me!
au contraire!
this is my reaction - - - 

in the real world these THREE morons would have their a$$es kicked out to the parking lot in a New York minute - and Gibbs would have been right behind them for letting them into the building in the first place!

I can say no more about this p.o.s. episode that many of you haven't said already...

I didn't even want to write this post, but if I didn't get it off my chest, my head would have exploded...

We are here for your 'splosions, Nas. Indeed, they come as a fresh breeze through a fetid smoke.

Speaking from experience, the three morons would not have been allowed in. And you are correct, Gibbs would not have been the authority to let them, or anyone else for that matter, into the building.

The writing gets lower and lower.
I wish I could quit this show.

Cheers!!

I'd start my list for that with Sr.
Heck, I'm not so sure Cpl. Yost should have gotten as far as he did before being stopped at the metal detector.

I'm pretty sure the elevator requires the retinal scan, but Torres was probably their escort at that point, though I'm not so sure MI6 would be an authorized escort.

Cpl Yost getting as far as the NCIS (JAG) building didn't surprise me. He probably showed (if security searched the bus he took) his Medal of Honor. The gun wasn't even in working order.

He came in the building at the ground level - something we haven't seen since - and the door from outside was just behind him when he came through the medal detector.

Dr Jason Bull: Don't give up on people, they're all we've got.

reply

I considered mentioning the MoH, but since at the metal detector he'd forgotten he had it on I opted against the theory. His memory was failing, but didn't seem like it was quite that bad yet.

Why not? He's a senior field agent, for crying out loud. If he can't sign a visitor in, who does he need to ask?
Heck, I'm not so sure Cpl. Yost should have gotten as far as he did before being stopped at the metal detector.
And where would he have been stopped? As a MoH holder, he should have a military retired ID card, which gets him on the base.
I'm pretty sure the elevator requires the retinal scan
Only if you're entering from the basement/garage (access from outside, bypasses metal detector at the front entrance). There's no scanner on the squad room's floor or outside Abby's lab.

I wish I could "quit it", too, SevernSarge!

I really think at this point I'm watching NCIS to see how really stupid/moronic/unrealistic the writing can get from week to week...
and so far, this season, it does not disappoint!

 I wonder:
are people really getting paid good $$$ to write this stuff - - - and do they really believe it's good? 

TV writers and producers for forever have viewed any character who is not from SoCal,SF, or the Northeast Corridor(DC-NY-Boston) as an under educated hick, rube, moron,or yokel. Surprised we didn't see their pickup in the parking lot.

reply

They don't paint Bishop that way....

reply

Actually I think they did show her driving her pickup truck when she went back to Oklahoma after deciding to get the divorce.

The problem with showing the parking lot is that Gibbs' pickup would probably be out there too.

reply

Just recently caught the ep where Bishop sees Jake at lunch with The Other Woman. She's driving a pickup which she parks across the street from the bistro before looking in the window.

reply

yup, watched that episode last night and saw her get out of her pick up

I don't have actual statistics, but I think more than half the people living in the areas you mentioned *originated* elsewhere. I think they felt very alienated where they lived, and moved to find like-minded people. But there are lots of areas of the US that actually nurture thinking and creative processes; it is not exclusive to any town or area.

And you'd be surprised at the number of pickup trucks in SoCal, SF or the Northeast Corridor.....

No, David. No one is happy in a poodle skirt and a sweater set.

Having visited the Naval Yard in DC a couple of times for training, and walked around the corner to the building which houses the NCIS office depicted I can tell you first hand that as a non Employee Visitor:
There are Security Guards at the Front who will ask you your purpose for visiting ... You will not get past the front lobby without an appointment or an escort. There are employee lines and visitor lines

The person sent to escort you has to sign you in and you go thorough secondary security.
CPL Yost would have gone in through the Visitor Lane.. Had Gibbs not been in line behind him he would have been stopped and asked his business for being there. Gibbs basically signed him in -- After discovery of the weapon and Yost's confession.

Now, after all the realignment of Defense Agencies Criminal Investigation Services HQ's to Quantico, gaining access to that HQ building is even tougher.
any agent not assigned to the HQs building must get an appointment to visit the building ahead of time. There is no "just dropped by.

Which means that the other posters are correct. Protocol is written to fit the universe of the writer and directors so that the story flows.

There is very little about NCIS that is even close to a gray edge of reality. the watcher must take this into consideration when viewing any episode of NCIS.

like seldon said in his earlier reply, SR. DiNozzo would definitely not be wandering around the building either!
when asked his "purpose for visit", what's he gonna' say?
"I'm here to be a creepy old man, and get a hug from Abby."
riiiight!  

and as a dyed-in-the-wool Realist, I find it insulting to my intelligence - - especially since in the beginning of the show the writers stated that they were proud of how closely they stuck to the real NCIS...

now the show would be better on the SyFy Channel - or maybe even Comedy Central! 
