... about McGee of all people assaulting a suspect in interrogation last week!
It's not out of the ordinary on a criminal procedure, but having McGee of all people be the one. just seems out of character. I guess he was trying to step up and fill 'Senior Field Agent' shoes? Or show off in front of the new guy?
But it just seemed quite out of character to have McGee of all people go all Ziva on the suspect.
Since there aren't any threads about it, maybe I'm the only one who thought so.

That was the point. If I'm recalling the scene correctly, the suspect being interrogated made some snarky comment about Torres acting as the 'bad cop' and McGee being the 'good cop.' In other words, he assumed that McGee didn't have it in him to get tough with anyone.
So McGee proved him wrong. Not 'out of character' so much as simply a side of McGee we don't often see.
I guess he was trying to step up and fill 'Senior Field Agent' shoes?
Maybe, but that would be a shame. Tony as SFA more often used sneakiness and subterfuge in interrogation. Going all Ziva (I like that) or even all Gibbs shows a lack of control to me and an inability to use reason over violence.
In any case, it's pretty OOC for McGee, so I'm happier than ever that I'm not watching this season. It would just be so disappointing. reply share

Trixie, you're not missing anything, it's just really dumb, that scene with McGee getting all Gibbs on the suspect was laughable, so I don't look forward to it anymore. BTW, what is OOC?
BTW, watching Designated Survivor on demand right now.
it's like Jack Bauer as president, lol, I love that show, the one thing about 24 is that it never got stale like NCIS IS NOW, maybe because it wasn't on long enough, only 8 seasons. or maybe they wanted to go out at their best, which is too late for NCIS, it's just seems like they are milking that show till there is no more.

The fact that it was out of character for McGee to act that way was the point of him acting that way.
The suspect already tagged McGee as "the good cop", mainly because that is the vibe McGee gives off -- even to a suspect who doesn't know him. So in response to that, McGee wanted the suspect to think that he (McGee) was in fact the "bad cop" -- or if Torres was "the bad cop", then he wanted the suspect to believe that he was the "worse cop".
So yeah -- being the "bad cop" is certainly out of character for McGee, but it was an interrogation tactic he used to illicit information from the suspect, who was getting a bit too comfortable with himself.
The suspect didn't expect McGee to be the bad cop, so when it turned out he was (or at least he appeared to the suspect to have become the bad cop), the suspect offered up information.
I can see the logic behind that argument, but really -- interrogations that use coercion, threats of violence or actual violence, are not only unprofessional, but they can irreparably harm the credibility of an entire investigation.
I really hate the crime procedural trope of "roughing up the suspect."
Ah, not having seen the scene and just reading one person's interpretation is not the same as actually seeing the scene. As many viewers pointed out, the scene, in context, made sense and was even sorta amusing.
And McGee did, at least once that I remember, go all "tough guy bad cop" on a suspect in interview. I don't recall much of the episode, just McGee cracking his knuckles....one at a time....

No, David. No one is happy in a poodle skirt and a sweater set.
I can't think of the name of the episode, but it was the one with the El Savador gangs where there were bodies trapped under the ice of some lake. McGee was really just buying time while Gibbs was showing all of the evidence to the other members of the gang so he could have a legit jury of his peers.
imo, that is one of the best scenes Sean Murray ever had in the entire 13 years he's been on the show!
he never laid a hand on that kid, but he was much more believable back then than he was being a (hokey/phony) "bad a$$" in last week's episode, "Philly"...

Me too. I've nominally been watching this season but I've been doing other things at the same time. I don't even remember that scene and McGee is my favourite character. But speaking of OOC, I thought the same thing about tonight's episode. Not so much OOC for a character, but just OOC for the show. The stuff about the new female agent having a sex dream about Gibbs? Ugh. And the thing about the new male agent winning Tony's apartment? That annoyed me so much, I had to keep telling myself it's not real. There were 2 people who deserved that apartment: McGee OR Abby. Why in the heck would Tony's Dad consider any of these Johnnys-Come-Lately? I didn't even watch the end.

Yeah well... clearly you should have watched the end.

The writers/show runners are trying to remake McGee. I have no idea why. He needs character development, he can't stay the shy geek of 13 years ago, but this is not progress.
I am really disappointed about this season. They have Abby stuck in place, the new Gibbs is boring, the two new team members are terrible.
I have been holding my breath this season, but I believe the cast has begun to feel comfortable with each other. Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) was right on target with Bishop's brothers in the last episode, IMO.
McGee has matured a lot the last few years. In the episode with his grandmother, he did raise his voice to Gibbs when he stopped the interrogation, and he was quite assertive when he himself was questioning Penny. Also assertive in the episodes dealing with his relationship with his father.
Nothing has really been the same since Cote de Pablo left. I have never warmed up to Emily Wickersham (those EYEBROWS), and now Michael Weatherly is gone. But I have read the show is still #1. I had also read earlier that the series may be coming to an end. Well, they all do eventually.
