A giant ferris wheel? lol...

Yes indeed it is the London Eye which is fantastic and may I just say a bit more spectacular then a ferris wheel giant or not ;)

Actually, "giant ferris wheel" strikes me as a very accurate description.

well done...seriously? WELL DONE? for knowong what one of the biggest london landmarks are...ok.

Oddly, we're not all British who watch this show. I only recognized the 'Giant Ferris Wheel' because I happen to like Torchwood. Pardon me for not having a passing familiarity with London Landmarks.

hahaha its a pretty famous landmark!

Sure it is, if you're British. Just like The Empress Hotel or Parliament Hill is to a Canadian.

Sheesh why the need to mock someone else's lack of knowledge on something? The original poster did not know what the London eye was and asked an honest question and another person graciously answered. Rather than let it end there as a friendly exchange, no, one has to shift into mocking another. Seriously, I sometimes don't understand people. As smart as we would all like to believe we are, I am sure there are many things that each and everyone of us does not know which may seem obvious to another.

Thing is...to confuse matters even more, there are other "Eyes" now in other British cities.

Manchester, for one. Liverpool also has one.

So the days of spying the "Eye" in an establishing shot are not as straightforward as it used to be.

If they use it as a London establishing shot they have to film "downward" to show it's on the Thames, so you can see other identifying buildings around it.

But shooting "upward" at it, it could be in any of the cities of Britain that have an Eye now.

I've been caught out a couple of time on this, thinking a show was in London when it was in Manchester or Liverpool, because they used the Eye in the opening shot.

Personally, I find them all hideous carbuncles on the faces of beautiful cities. They are eyesores that never fit into the environment in which they are placed and cheapen the cityscapes beyond the pale.

As an establishing shot of London, they now seem to use the Gherkin (I think it's nicknamed - don't live in UK).
