What's up with people disliking Norm?

Did you first get introduced to Norm through last comic standing or something? Personally I think he is one of the smartest and most genuine comics out there. Who is more originally than norm? (no gimmicks included). Would you rather have 3 judges who praise every contestant. Norm is actually being himself and sharing his thoughts as raw as they are, whether or not it makes you uncomfortable.

I've noticed a lot of people here say he is just not funny. Now go find clips of norm and tell me one other comedian that gets OTHER comedians to laugh more than norm? He absolutely cracks up professional comics who are hard to impress. Maybe you need to expand your type of humor ;)

David letterman once said that Norm was the funniest comic alive. There is a reason he picked him to do the last performance of the late night show.

I hate David, but I agree with him about Norm, he is smart and funny, he is like the Stern and Cowell of Talent shows, he lays down the facts and keeps it original instead of saying "you were great, that was amazing" to everyone, it's constructive criticism. Or sometimes the hard truth.

Agree. His impersonation of Burt Reynolds on Celebrity Jeopardy on SNL was hysterical.

But I kinda get it-- why people are put off by him. I think it's unfortunate for him that he's most known as a Saturday Night Live guy when his real calling and true love is stand-up, and in that capacity he's top-notch hysterical (in my meager estimation).

I like how he differentiated the differences between comedic actor, comedy writer and stand-up-- how they are all different talents suited for different personalities. While Norm has created a comedic persona, he's not really a showman. I think he is primarily a joke writer guy and an insular stand-up, which doesn't necessarily translate to the kind of charisma expected from this type of show (I think the same thing about Anthony Jeselnik, who I also like-- but he at least has his good looks going for him).

Anyway, part of Norm's quirky oddball persona is that he's always gone against the grain and makes up his own rules. I don't even know how I would perceive him from watching this show alone if I wasn't already familiar with his strange and unique style of comedy (which I love). A lot of his humor in the first place is about twisting jokes on theirselves-- where the reaction to the joke is sometimes kinda like "WTF, how is this even a joke?" So, he's got an alienating style to begin with, not to mention his odd personal demeanor. But here he's not even trying to be funny on this show-- he seems genuinely trying to communicate his ideas on his craft.

i'm a huge norm fan though i do see some fault in a format like this where it's kind of "black & white" i don't particularly care for this so you might want to change it kind of approach - overall i think the general aversion to norm's judging style pretty much goes along the same kind of "hehe happy go-lucky no haterz plz!" attitude that gets someone like andy erickson to the top of the bill

then again, from what i've seen so far wanda sykes seemed to handle the "constructive critism" side of things pretty well

*beep* that guy who had the whole "it's just coming from me i'm doing my stuff!" thing, one of the worst finalists as it was. obviously criticism is supposed to be taken with a grain of salt anyway, even if there are varying degrees
