I have found this show likes to find and promote comics who have a bit, a character, a gimmick or a hook. Then they overpraise them and act like their routines are "fresh" or "unique". Socially awkward, overweight, somehow disabled, physically very attractive yet speaks very vulgarly, to name just a few. Then they promote these comics on, material be damned. There is a very good reason they have done away with audience participation and/or phone in voting.....
Andy plays a character during her sets, that of the imaginary friend of a little girl coming out of the mouth of a Raggedy Ann doll. Forget the fact nearly all he jokes are painfully juvenile, this bit has been done before and in much more seasoned and interesting ways.
I agree about Maria Bamford, she is a much more refined, adult based template from which Andy's character certainly was at least partially based upon.
Much like Larry The Cable Guy is based upon Southern stereotypes, innuendo and exaggerated dim witlessness, so too is Ms. Erikson trying to caricature northern Michigan and Mid Western folks. How terrible is it that LCS championed her as the "somehow crippled' contestant in lieu of someone with some actual affliction?
Other shows like this promise a nightly venue in Las Vegas to preform in and when I see children acts or overtly juvenile, one trick premises, I often wonder how they could possibly win? How can this act work in Las Vegas?!?
I found myself wondering during the Final, if Andy won....how could this possibly be turned into some kind of sitcom?
