Format change?

It seems like this season they're not going with the challenges route. No do X challenge to avoid being up for elimination and "I know I'm funnier than X" to nominate comics for the showdown. Unless I'm reading into it wrong, it sounds like next week will be a series of head-to-head segments, like they are building a tournament bracket.

It's even worse than that - the episode after next is the season (and probably series) finale.

reply

Yea no shows where they have to do improv or be a tour guide. :(

Or roast. I liked the challenges the best

It is the finale, at least according to my guide. This season started out so good and I expected it to go the same route as last season. When I heard them say "Top 5" I couldn't believe it. They also chose some horrible comedians this year. I'm a female and I believe they chose certain comics solely based on the fact that they're females. It's disappointing.

I liked it in the beginning when they lived in a house and you could see a bit of them working on their routines in the back yard and interacting with each other. And at least last year they still had the challenges.

This year all you see is their material, they don't even have to tailor it to anything.

ditto to everything you said. the beginning seasons were the best. You got to see them interact...see their true personalities...who was actually funny and quick witted on the spot. these are just canned routines...you dont really have anyone to get behind or care about. oh that was a funny line. that was meh. whose next. LOVING Norm Mcdonald though!!!!!

and it's so edited, especially the first rounds that the sets or the judges don't even make sense half the time. Editing is fine, but why not just let the comics give their whole 3-4 minutes if that is all you are going to do on the show?

I don't care for the house. It's just a bad reality TV trope to put people in a competition in the same housing.

I did like the challenges. After all we are supposed to be under the impression the winner gets a TV show. It's good to see their range and how their stand-up applies to a TV comedy. This stand-up tournament is not a good judge of that, again supposed, prize. It's also creatively lacking from a production standpoint. You have a primetime slot on network TV and all you're doing with it is a stage performance. American Idol is on the way out with that format.

I agree, it complete sucked this season. it definitely needed 10-12 episodes at least. last season they had 13 plus that 100 joke countdown that was eh. this season I didn't laugh near as much as season 8, with machi and the other guy in the jean jacket I think they then went head to head was amazingly hilarious. and also me and my friend talk about the "spring break 98 tank top wearing drinkingtime squirrel" all the the freaking time lol. the format also let them show where they really lacked in talent, ie like on the morning show/the sketches they had to do on the 2 teams against each other & the universal tour bus.
