Was Mary supposed to be a hooker?

Haven't watched it in years, but I just got all 5 seasons on DVD. In the pilot episode, the first time Danny talks to Mary, she says something like...hurry up Danny I'm working and my date thinks I'm in the bathroom. Sounds like a professional date to me. I just remember her as being very frigid and it caught me by surprise.

I know she ended up as the manager. It just seemed like maybe they changed the character. Nessa the "Ice Queen" was originally written dor a man...Iceman. they changed it just for her.

originally, the character of mary was like an "escort". if you listen to the dvd commentary for the pilot episode nikki cox makes a comment "oh this was when i was a hooker". the writers changed it because they didn't want the character of danny to be romantically involved with a hooker, or something like that, so they made her an event planner and eventually a manager. mary was kind of prudish compared to the other girls on the show but she was also abused by her father as a child, so the hooker thing could've worked too.

She was supposed to be a hooker; they just filmed Danny's voiceover later, where he said "I know what you're thinking- no, she's not a hooker. She's our special events manager."

Mary's storyline would have been more interesting if they had kept her a prostitute and then maybe later on she gets a job at the hotel. Who knows? She might have even gotten the guy (Danny) in the end. Unfortunately, the most drama they gave Mary was the abusive father angst which was dull and she just wasn't written well. There's nothing wrong with being the 'good girl' of the bunch but that doesn't mean she had to be written in a boring manner.
