Please explain this show to me

Is it suppose to be real? Parts of it seem so but then you see the chick that played Howard Sterns wife in 'Private Parts' and the guy who's in all those Spike Lee movies. Was the whole Dean prep for real or staged? Very confusing.

The show is fiction based in reality. Real life people involved in the show have staged conversations.

As an example, I didn't find the "Trent Lott" line that Dean used in the debate in the actual transript of the real debate.

I'll give the show another episode, but being politically inept, I found the first episode a bit confusing. After reading some article about the show, it makes a little more sense.

My biggest hang up while watching was whether this was based in reality or fiction.

I thought the first episode was interesting. I could see how the politically inept would be confused. You can see the Steven Soderberg influence.

Howard Dean certainly got alot of face time. I hope they give equal time to all the candidates. Especially Wesley Clark when he throws his hat in the ring.

reply

It kinda sounds like "The West Wing."

reply

They dont need to give equal time. its not a show where people acquire "news" its considered entertainment and its also not real.

reply

Actually, I did hear Dean use the Trent Lott line in a debate on C-SPAN about a week or two ago. I want to say that it was a rebroadcast of the Black Caucus debate that originally aired on FOX News but I'm not sure.

reply

OK, yeah, I'm actually watching the premiere episode of "K Street" right now. The Trent Lott line was absolutely used by Dean in that debate. Maybe you got the wrong transcript or it wasn't transcribed for whatever reason ???

Anyway, I'm digging on the show - I think it could do without the fictional additions though. Although Mary McCormack is nice eye candy.

I hope the second episode is better. I was a little disappointed in the first. The opening 5 minutes were somewhat confusing. I also wish it were actually a documentary rather than fiction mixed with fact.

I would like to know why they called it "K Street". I never saw the show, but if it is about politics on Capital Hill I was wondering why they picked a stree that is about 7 blocks or so from the Capital building. If anyone knows that would be helpful.

reply

I believe it is called K Street because Matalin and Carville in the series founded a lobbying firm - K Street is reputed to be where the lobbyist offices are located in D.C.

reply

The fictional lobbying firm in the show is located on K street, which is where most lobbying firms are located as well as almost all types of business (expecially thigns that would enter the political realm like lobbyists, lawyers, think tanks, etc.)
