Zach Galifianakis thinks this is the dumbest show ever

That is what he told GQ, "it was the dumbest show Id ever seen. I remember saying to the producers, 'This show is terrible, doesn't make any sense, and it's insulting'"

He continues on to say how he would throw the scripts in the garbage right in front of the writers.

reply

can you post more of the interview?

reply

If thats true then he is a complete idiot. this is one of the best things he has ever done and he should not insult it.

reply

Luckily for him, he has moved on to intelligent stuff now, like The Hangover and G-force.

SO TRUE! Haha, if he's seriously bashing this show he's a complete idiot.

I seem to remember on the DVD special features you could TELL he hated the show. He was being all sarcastic. The show is very far from perfect but he was a good element in it and I think its unprofessional to act like that. Unless your Halle Berry and it's Catwoman.

No power in the 'verse can stop me.

reply

I really didn't notice him talking about how much he hated the show during the special features or commentary but I'll make sure to keep an ear out for it next time I watch those features. At first I thought he was just being sarcastic, but he seems to say the same thing in every interview so I'm starting to believe he meant it. I don't really like him as an actor anymore, very unprofessional. But I still love the Davis character.

From personal experience, I once emailed him a question about Tru Calling on his Myspace and he never responded to it.

reply

I'm pretty sure that if this show had been marketed better it would've had higher ratings and lasted longer. If that were the case, Zach probably would've been singing a different tune!

reply

He did say when the pilot was picked up, he got out a noose.

But I don't think his dislike for the show's writers or how it was ended has anything to do with his relationship with those he worked with. He seems fond of them if you listen to the commentary.

reply

WTH is that website? It looks really unprofessional.

reply

That wasn't the only time he said it. This link has a audio clip of him where we can hear him say it straight from his mouth http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364817/board/nest/137628718

reply

He's a douche. If he didn't like the show, he should have done everyone a favor and quit.

reply

That doesn't really sound like truth to me, because if he was such a prima donna, he would have been fired and replaced easily since Eliza Dushku was the lead and focus of the show and not him.

Even now, he doesn't really have the star power to be a prima donna, not yet. I was wondering how he went from a decent dramatic actor to decent stand up comic, to weird completely so odd he isn't funny comic, to the Hangover, then back to not being that funny on SNL a week ago.

Such is the up and down life of Zach Galifianakis, I guess. I think he should be happy for ANY job he gets in the business, whether he likes it or not.

But then again, he could be just kidding, though it comes off as whining and big head syndrome.

reply

Well he was a fan favourite so I'm not surprised they kept him around even though he was acting like that behind the scenes. Plus he was an important character being Tru's closest ally.

reply

I'd like you to site your source...otherwise I am inclined to NOT believe you.

reply

If he really hated it, it might have made his performances better. There seems to be a thinly veiled level of contempt and anger in his character that made him a very watchable part of the show.

reply

^ That makes sense, his character was very odd.

Yeah I've been a very big fan of zach's for a long time--I don't think anyone could say he lacks talent. But this whole bashing the show he was a part of, it makes me lose a little respect for him.

I just don't think he cares. I think his deal is that he says what he wants and he probably see's it as him just being honest and saying what he's thinking(which is different than the PC bull spewing from the mouths of most actors/actresses).

But it's been said on this thread before, bottom line, he was the one who chose to audition and accept the role. He's always making fun of douchy guys like Dane Cook, well he can officially make fun of himself because this is pretty douchy.

reply

He's a big shot now. Big shots always make fun of their past work. George Clooney does it, Brad Pitt does it, and countless others do. Not that this guy is on their level of stardom but he is pretty big right now.

reply

I have to admit, when I read this interview awhile back it ruined the show a bit for me. Knowing that he hated the show that much, makes it hard to take his character seriously. Whenever I see Davis on screen now, all I can think about is how much Zach hates the show. Granted the concept of the show is a bit out there. However, I enjoyed Tru Calling a lot and it sucks that he thought so little of it, when he played such a pivotal role.

reply

Does this mean Zach never watched Gilligan's Island?

Seriously, if nobody else on the show can confirm Zach throwing scripts in the garbage in front of the writers, maybe it is an air he puts on now. From watching the show, I always feel he is really into the character of Davis, never snarky or smirky about wild developments.

Since Hollywood is running out of ideas, and when Tru Calling: the Reunion Movie is launched (no plans--she's not your average 30-something-year-old), Mr. Galifianakis may have a better bargaining position than most on the film, since (1) he can do standup instead, (2) he can do zany films with bradley cooper and robert downey jr, (3) he has to be persuaded to take a part he "hated" or "revisionistically hated" to become a dramatic equal again in an ensemble rather than a comedic standout in an ensemble.

Are near-misses in the news really near-hits?

reply

Although I get it and I think somewhere he does think it's not that good a show I do think he is just over exaggerating to play the Hollywood game for his character..or he just really hates it and is that good an actor.

The show was okay, nowhere near great but ok and it's a shame they canceled it because season two was actually pretty okay!

This is on Zach's biography page:
(On his TV series "Tru Calling" (2003)) It was the dumbest show I'd ever seen. I remember calling the executive producer and saying, 'This show is terrible, doesn't make any sense, and it's insulting'. I tried to get fired. We'd do a table read, and as soon as we're done, I'd be the first one up, and I'd go, to the writer of the episode or whatever, 'Great script, Janet'. And I'd throw it in the trash can and walk out. Then I told the lead actress she was eating her way to cancellation. They thought it was me being Funny Stand-up Guy. But it was an incredibly happy time in my life, because I was biking everywhere. I was smoking so much pot, which was... You know, I was playing a doctor on TV, and I had to memorize all this medical jargon, and on, like, take 17-it was so unprofessional.

It does ruin the show for me as well. During it's run I would tune in every week and I loved the show. I had classes on the day it aired, then I would go and get pizza and I was home just when the show started and I would sit there, eat pizza and watch the show. It was some kind of ritual and I had a really good time. So much so that it made me cry when I found out that the show got cancelled and later I bought the DVD box from France. The energy and chemistry between Tru and Davis was lovely and yeah.. maybe some storylines or episodes were weird and unrealistic, but the writing was good in general. It was a well-paid job, he got to work with some amazing actors and it's not like he got stuck on a soap playing out the same storyline for a couple of years, so I think he has no point in whining about it.

Also, what exactly does he meant with: "Then I told the lead actress she was eating her way to cancellation."??
Because if he meant what I think he did - then he truly is an ***hole!!

reply

Huh. Until this show, I didn't even know who he was. Jerk. If he didn't like it, why did he sign on to it in the first place?

reply

Understandable, given how the intelligence level of the of his work has increased post 'Tru Calling'.

You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!
