Skin Tips

I have bad skin and I've tried treatments like Proactiv, but I'm allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide. I wish I would've never started wearing makeup (I think that's what caused this), but I can't really stop. Do you know of any other ways to clear my skin?

reply

C'mon, people. This is important.

reply

It might not be the makeup that's causing your skin problems. Your first step would be to consult a dermatologist. They have so much more knowledge on this subject than I do.

reply

Got to a dermatologist first. But cleaning your skin night and morning is the best skin tip I can give. eat healthy is another, exercise, all that influences skin condition.

reply

Drink lots of water, too. Vitamin E helps heal skin, sunscreen, and oil free makeup. Of course, a dermatologist can lead you in the right direction.

I hate makeup! I hope your skin problem will go away, Hm..I have fairly clear skin and I just drink lots of tea (jasmine) instead of coffee, water and rinse my face w/ cold water ever night.

I have also skin problems but it´s not acne it´s moles/brownspots. I have hundreds of them. I really hate them and want to have a surgery to remove them.

I cured my own skin problems with some common sense, and a book I read on what makes up the skin. The skin is the largest organ of the human body and it never responds to any cream all by itself, but put a drop of water on your skin and the change is remarkable, so I made my own night time regimin,
first wash your skin with watm water and noxema skin cream, rinse well, hold your face right under the fawcet and begin with warm and slowly change to cool then to cold . turn water off and pat dry. blot face with witch hazel, dry and apply light film of vanishing cream, I have been doing this for 10 years...

Noxzema is not necessarily good for your skin. My mother told me not to use it, so I stopped after only using it a short time when I was a teenager. My skin is great. Holding your face right under the faucet & changing the water like you do, may not be good for your skin. Some areas' waters may be full of chemicals &/or harsh water, which is drying to the skin. Witch Hazel can be drying. Using Neutrogena is better for the skin. I use the Rainbath, dilute it for my taste, then wash my skin, including my face. I have been doing this for over 20 years with no problems. Now, I have added using Neutrogena Facial skin scrubber every once in awhile. I use Neutrogena makeup & Neutrogena moisturizer & skin creams for the face & body. So, I would say, you should be very careful.

Dear Music Lover,
All of the following information is for you & the whole world & a reminder to me.
1. Use the brains God gave you.
2. Do research for yourself & on yourself
3. Do not look for an 'instant cure.'
4. Find out what you are allergic to. Once you have one allergy, you may find you have others.
5. Don't use Proactiv or Benzoyl Peroxide, Witch Hazel just because someone advertises something as good & works: remember they are trying to make money. These products dries the skin out I'm sure.
6. Don't use Noxzema; it is a 'medicated cleanser.' I started to use it as a teen & my mother told me to stop, I did, & I have great skin.
7. Seeing a dermatologist: a skin specialist who is a medical doctor of skin conditions, may be helpful. But make your own decisions based on your own research for you. The dermatologist does not know your body & your skin & your nutrition & you, like you would. The dermatologist only offers what he/she knows: medications. They are an M.D. after all. I do have a skin condition that is under control because I did my own research for myself, tho' I had gone to 5 dermatologists before I did & before I realized I needed to do my own research. The dermatologist can help you figure out, perhaps, why or if you are allergic to the makeup you have tried.
8. Realize that every so-called 'racial ethnic grouping' has it's own problems: for example, Asian Americans: eczema; Caucasian Americans: acne; darker skin like African Americans: very dry skin. These are just examples that I have noticed thru my lifetime. Not everyone in that ethnic grouping has these problems, but enough is seen in each grouping.
9. A person's main skin problem could be related to other problems: for example, some African Americans have high blood pressure, diabetes, neuropathy. All of these together lead to very dry skin. So, if a person has these or even one of these problems, he/she should see his/her physician; get blood pressure, diabetes, & neuropathy under control of medication if that is needed.
10. a. Drink lots of water to clean out the debris in the body (everyone needs to). I have noticed men do not use the bathroom as often as women because they do not drink enough water & they seem to only go once every 8 hours. I wonder if that could eventually cause benign hypertrophic prostate condition, for which a man may need surgical intervention later in life. It is called bhp for short.
b. Eat more fruit & veggies
c. Exercise: take off weight if overweight. Exercise indoors & outdoors depending what you can handle & what time of year & weather: walking is the easiest, least expensive. Walk the neighborhood. Walk the mall. Walk the local school/college track, football field, baseball field, etc. Weight training.
d. Remember that your intake of food & food substances can affect your skin:
1. caffeine in coffee, in soda pops, in chocolate, in teas.
2. alcohol
3. sugar, dextrose, glucose, in all its forms
4. MSG: mono-sodium glutamate, which has been added to many, many foods these days
5. salt, sodium nitrates, sodium nitrites, & all its forms
6. soda pop
7. fats

11. Perhaps try the minerals only makeup if truly needed, like Sheer Cover or Bare Minerals or from the drug stores or the department store. Do not let others decide for you. Make your own decisions based on your own research on yourself.
12. What I do for my skin: all of these things I have written about (I have never had an acne problem like some people) Because of my allergies, I have found out that I can use Neutrogena (it seems to be hypo-allergenic) without any problems. I use Neutrogena products for cleaning my skin, Neutrogena makeup & Neutrogena for moisturizing my skin. This was before mineral makeup came into being.
13. Use a skin brush to scrub your back daily.
14. Shower daily because a shower is cleaner, uses less water. A shower daily cleans your body of bacteria, germs, dirt that each of us picks up during our daily 'walk thru life.' I shower before going to bed. I believe it is cleaner all around than to 'shower in the morning' and sleeping for 8 hours with the bacteria & germs growing & living in our skin we picked up during our day out in the world.
15. Use a skin brush to scrub your face daily (or more or less often depending on your facial skin.) Brushing will help remove the dead & dry skin cells that die every day. It is also called exfoliation.
16. Read what Robert C. Atkins, M.D. has written: what he says about how the sugars affects our body is very important. The people who criticized Dr. Atkins' books did not read them all the way through or just wanted to believe what they wanted to believe. Nowadays, they are promoting what Atkins advocated most of his lifetime, tho' they do not acknowledge Atkins' research or his ideas. And they now call it the Glycemic Index. Most groups now promote it. Try to get the book called The Superenergy Diet.
17. If you research about nutrition, you can help your body heal up from the inside for the skin problem that medications or makeup may have harmed.
18. Add vitamins & minerals that will help you heal faster & for daily life. Why? because if a person thinks about it: most of the food grown today is stripped of a lot of its nutrition & vita-nutrients. The soil is stripped, but they still grow crops on it. etc.
19. The best thing to do: allow no substance to control your body: neither alcohol, drugs, coffee, food, caffeine etc.
Research, research, research is the key.
