Against cosmetic surgery

I truely feel like the only one left that is against cosmetic surgery. There's one thing to have reconstructive surgery to fix the problem, theres another to go under the knife and anasthesia when you dont need to. It makes me sad to think that the cosmetic surgery is a 2 billion dollar industry when that money could go to so many other things (i.e. charities). I understand, that the way you looks impacts your life, I don't dispute that, but everyone has imperfections, shouldn't we rise above that? And why alter our appearance based on what the media tells us is beautiful? Moreover, what ever happened to the aphorism "don't judge a book by its cover"?

reply

unfortunatly, we all do judge a book by it's cover or woman would never be paying billions to the cosmetic industry and the guys would never whistle if the gals had only a beautiful mind-- people ARE judged by what they look like and the beautiful get by in life on a pass...

Shouldn't we rise above that rather than give in to such a notion? And the media is dictating what is considered beautiful, this is really sad. How many black people do you see in the media without "white" features?
