I couldn't belive that he didn't, the production company did, which I am glad about but nothing for Rufus. Even Ray Winstan, when interviewed, said that Rufus deserved an award for his potrayal of Charles II.
It gets boring agreeing with everything you post but I feel strongly about this comment in particular. This performance was brilliant and Rufus Sewell was completely robbed here. Awards, in most cases, have little to do with achievement, it's mostly about marketing and popularity. It's annoying none the less and it's great that Ray Winstone said that but I hope Rufus Sewell is very proud of himself for his work in "Charles II" regardless of the Baftas.
It's nice to have somebody aggreeing with me for once and I'm sure that Rufus is very proud of his work in Charles II and if he isn't then he should be, as with many of his films he played a great part. And he is soo cute!
I totally agree with you! He was robbed! His performance (together with the rest of the cast) was powerful, yet moving in parts, and beautifully acted. We will have to start a petition!
i thought it was pretty good. i get where you're coming from with the weak performance at times, though. i felt that by the end, the queen had gotten so tired of putting up with her husband's infidelity that she just gave up and accepted it, creating a sort of aloofness which made a seemingly weak performance.
It's an outrage. Not even a nomination. Makes me ill to think about it, really. The role was incredibly demanding, calling for great subtlety and complexity and Rufus played it to mesmerizing perfection.
Who won instead?
I'd also like to know. Was this placed in direct competition with made-for-cinema releases like The Aviator?
