I recommend Antonia Fraser’s work on Charles II. It is an excellent book and ideal if you have not read much on Charles II before. It touches upon the major events and themes of his reign in a comprehensible manner.

Coming on this post several years later, but I must agree Fraser's biography of Charles II was a page-turner. Her approach made the king spring to life across the centuries.
