Anyone know the US run time on the upcoming DVD?

I've searched high and low and can't seem to find it. I saw the original four hour film once on A&E and it was the first night it was on. It was SO much better than the three hour version.

I'm concerned though that they're going to cut the DVD as well. Does anyone have any idea?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting A&E Home Video!

"The Last King" (item number: AH71325 [DVD) is available through us as
a three hour presentation. Originally, this program was shown with an
additional hour's worth of footage that was edited out to adhere to ever
tightening US broadcast content standards. We are sorry that we cannot
offer the complete four hour program, but we feel that the quality, and
integrity of the story remains faithful to the original release.

Please note that at this time we do not have referral information as to
where the four hour version can be purchased as this is the only
generation of the program for which we hold the distribution rights.

Please feel free to contact us again if there is anything else we can
do for you. We hope you'll visit us again online soon.

Warmest regards,

Terry

The four hour version is available from amazon.co.uk and any other UK distributor. You'll need a zone-free player with a PAL converter to play it in the States. It has commentaries and a couple documentaries as well.

I live in the states, and I was able to rent this movie on DVD, which ran at 188 minutes. Would this not be the full, original, uncut version only minus the commericials??

"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"

reply

Nope. That's not the original version. The original is rather risque and I was MORE than just a little disappointed that it's unavailable as a US DVD. :( I've no idea why they won't sell it here. So much has been cut that it's rather boring compared to the original.

Time for zone-free DVD player! ;-)

"Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"

This is incredibly annoying. Whatever they can or can't do on TV, why on earth can't they release the full movie on DVD? Ba!

This film - the complete 4 hour (or rather 228 minutes) version - is for sale in The Netherlands for only 5 euro ($ 4,50). A two-disc version including Dutch subtitles, a photo gallery and 'making of' documentary, presented in 4:3 full screen. I bought it from www.freerecordshop.nl.

You may already be aware of this -- but you can buy the original UK 4-hour version at sendit.com (formerly blackstar.co.uk) for 20 GBP. The only problem being that it is in Region 2 format. However, I have found that because there are certain DVDs, such as this, which are available only in the UK, or which have an earlier release date (as in the case of the 7th Season of Buffy), it is worthwhile to invest in a multi-regional DVD player. They are available over the internet for less than $150.00. Just FYI. :-)

Are the commentaries on the dvd for all episodes?

So, is the MOVIE ITSELF on the UK DVD the WHOLE UNCUT version then??

reply

yes, the whole thing is on the UK dvd. the US edition is the edited version, and although the movie is called "charles II: the power and the passion," the US version is more power than passion; it's called the "last king" because people i suppose might think they'd missed "charles I"

I know this is an old thread but...

Many dvd players can be made region-free, and they're dirt cheap these days. Just google for the info on your model.

If you check out some torrent sites you can find the original version to "preview" for free via download. wink
