Why are they even bears to begin with?

They act no differently than people, and have stupid names to boot. Oh, yeah...they live in a TREE, that's the only difference. Sheesh.

Be...cause...they are. That's all we really need to know. Never once did I question the bearness of the Berenstains while I was growing up and collecting all of their books and videos. And I'm glad they're not the Berenstain People. Or just the Berenstains...O.o; Stan and Jan created awesome bears! Even if their names are absurd!

Their living in a tree is not the only difference. Everything is cleverly adapted for life in Bear Country. It's far more interesting this way. You might as well wonder why any of the other thousands of anthropomorphic animal characters aren't humans. How dull it would be if everything was about humans!
